We showed grit and played tough. We had many long drives and had a 99 yard TD drive from the 1. We wore down one of the SEC’s top defenses and hung in the game. This team can do some serious damage. Yes Levi Lewis has some question marks, but the guy has undeniable playmaking abilities. We have good receivers, an amazing rb tandem. The defense played good despite not being able to stop the run against that SEC line.
This was as good as a loss gets, many positives. These early games against top teams can really put a damper on a season right off the bat by getting dominated, but this game got me excited to see what this team can do for the rest of the season. We came to compete.
The point was not the players it’s the principal. I don’t believe from what I’ve seen that We have a quarterback who can legitimately pass the ball on an above average level. I think we are gonna need that to take the next step this season and really unleash the run game. If we can’t do that each team will put 8 men in the box and dare us to throw it. I hope Levi can be that guy and can improve throughout the season, I just don’t see it yet and I’m not sure we have anyone else who can do much better. Time will tell. I place my trust in Napier.
I never argued against it. Only pointing out silly logic by someone saying that if one of the 2 best QBs in school history played today, we would have won.
I don’t think it’s all on Levi though. There are several moments in the game that caused us to lose. I do think QB play is our biggest weakness based on that game. We looked improved in the secondary and OLine compared to last year, which was a critical improvement. I thought the DLine was the next greatest weakness. We couldn’t get enough pressure without blitzing and I believe their RB got 100 yards rushing on us in the 1st half and finished the game with over 200. He did not get that many touches either.
On another note, anyone hear reported attendance?
