I’m 100% against mid week games. It does absolutely nothing for us. It helps raise the profile of the Sun Belt but kills individual programs. Give us 7pm kickoffs at home Saturday nights from mid September to mid November. Attendance would rise and perception around Acadiana would increase. We are selling our souls to the networks with minimal ROI. Produce our own content and sell it ourselves.

Not playing Saturday home games in October is depressing. I know we had a couple last year after some down years but in recent history we have not. That's prime-time tailgating and game weather.

what about moving the season start to late september, eliminating the pre bowl break, more games would be in the cooler weather?

This has to adversely affect season tickets I would think . Not to mention the loss of value in tailgating spots

It is worse on walk-up sales. Previous spikes in attendance during the season only occurred during and after win streaks. That can't happen when you blow a hole in the heart of your schedule.

These mid-week games are a net negative for the football program. We need to be more vocal about this. It's time for things to change.

I really hope Maggard is using a similar strategy when building our football schedule as Mohajir.

"I've said it many times that we're going to try to play the biggest brands in college football, and that's part of our scheduling philosophy," Mohajir said. "The only way that we really change the perception of our program is you got to play elite programs and beat them. It's like playing the lottery -- you got to play them to beat them."

I vehemently disagree with that philosophy. Beating recognizable P5 schools is a must. Scheduling Oklahoma, Bama, Clemson, Georgia does absolutely nothing for our program.

I don't see the upside to college football for doing this. It shortens the season (time wise, not game wise), NFL will be going full strength already and baseball playoffs will be starting.

People are already chomping at the bit for games this weekend, 8/24 and you are seeing posts every day since June or July that you cannot wait for college football to get here.

I understand that MAYBE more people would attend live, but that would not offset the losses in revenue from what TV contracts bring in for that extra 3-4 weeks, IMO.

It's all about timing and luck. You shouldn't schedule these guys like when we scheduled Bama this last time.

You try to schedule them when they are down and hope they are not at Bama/Clemson level when you play them.

Frankly, limiting ourselves to one P5 game per year lends itself to scheduling programs we shouldn't at the moment because we are chasing the biggest payday we can get.

I disagree, Boise made itself into the best G5 program out there by 'usually' playing one P5 on the road and 10-2, 11-1 with at least 6 home games. This enabled them to get to some bowls where they would potentially get another shot at a G5 team at a neutral site.

Based upon building that success they have just completed or will complete home and homes with Oregon, Oregon St, Virginia, Washington State and Florida State. It didn't happen overnight, they had a plan, they had success, some bumps and then more success and are now the shining star, IMO.

Bottom line is there are no shortcuts. Invest, Win, Invest, Win, Invest ... rinse and repeat.

Nobody.

There are variables in play there that are not in play for the rest of the country. They don't have an in-state P5 knocking them down. They had their own freakin Bowl in Boise. They get a lot of P5 level talent from the west coast as the population/P5 program ratio works in their favor.

They didn't play more P5 games back then because they didn't need to do that.

We need them, and we need to beat them.
