Lanny, I'm going by the limited clips etc and hear say. I have not seen him live. Have you seen him in real time? I'm just curious about the real eye ball test vs others on our roster.

Maybe Scott was extremely excited like most of us or in a state of shock like most of us!!!! Where was he prior to transferring to UL?

This really got interesting in Cajun Land.

Levi Lewis--Returning QB, only one with D-1 experience and has been in the system longer than anyone else. Very intelligent and believed to be a leader. Coaches are raving about his growth and leadership skills.

Brayden Hawkins--arguably the most talented QB on the team, big strong arm and uber talented. Made the rosters of UTEP and Maryland, so obviously talented and expectations are very big for this young man.

Jai'ave Magalei--JUCO transfer that was expected to challenge Lewis for starting QB this year. Nice experience in JUCO, big and strong Pro Style QB. As a freshman in JUCO completed 63.6% of his passes throwing for 1811 yards and 19 TD's while leading his team to a 9-2 mark.

Clifton McDowell--another big strong QB out of Texas. 6'3 223 LB Dual Threat QB, had offers from us and ULM as well as a couple of FCS schools. 3 Star guy with a .8261 composite rating.

Chandler Fields--Smallish talented dual threat guy, who is impressing the coaches at every turn during camp. Had an offer from Memphis as well as UL and got looks from Arizona State and Oklahoma State as well as offers from a number of FCS schools. Had 30 TD's as a junior at Rummel.

Beau Kalbacher--A JC quarterback from Texas. Prior to UL he attended Golden West College in California where he was All Conference as well as Offensive MVP in their bowl game.

I am not sure, but this is one of the most talented group of QB's we have had in a long time. I am not sure who will start the season, who will get the majority of the snaps and who will finish the season behind center, but the one thing I do know is that we have a number of guys who are qualified to handle the duties. Let the best man win and let the chips fall where they may. I do believe no matter what happens Coach Napier is going to play 2 of these guys early this season and I believe that Levi will be one of those guys, the good news is that McDowell and Fields are eligible for RS years, so I think that is what we will see. If McDowell is capable of changing positions we might see that, I think when it all shakes out, we will see this.

    #1A -- Brayden Hawkins
#1B -- Levis Lewis (might start the season, but will play like he did last year)
    #3 -- Jai'ave Magalei
#4 -- Chandler Fields -- Will take a RS unless he is needed to play
#5 -- Clifton McDowell -- Will take a RS unless he is needed to play and will probably Transfer out or change positions
#6 -- Beau Kalbacher -- Will stay with the team until graduation with very limited if any playing time.

I hate to say this, but given our history of QB injuries over the years I am sure the top 3 will most probably see significant playing time. They always do. It is nice to finally be deep at QB.

Last season we only played 2 QB's and neither was due to injury. Nunez and Lewis, the only other player to throw a pass was Ja'marcus Bradley. In 2017 we did play 3 QB's, Davis, Nunez and Lewis, in 2016 we played almost 100% Jennings, between Nixon and Davis they both threw a total of 16 passes and completed 10 of them, in 2015 we did play 3, Haack, Nixon and Davis and in 2014 we played Broadway and Haack, but Haack only threw 23 passes. So since 2014 we have had 2 seasons where 3 QB's got significant playing time, so I would not say we have a history of playing 3 QB's recently.

But I do know this and believe me I was a fan of Andre's play:

    Hawkins > Nunez
    Lewis 2019 > Lewis 2018
    Magalei > Gibson
    Fields > Blazek
    McDowell > Arceneau

So if I am correct we have improved our QB play tremendously.

Swap your 1A and 1B. This kid isn’t like Terrance Broadway coming in here. He’ll need to develop just like any other QB on the roster.

I tend to agree with you and that is why I said Levi will likely start the season, but I think Hawkins develops into the starter and that Levi reverts to his role last year where he plays every 4 or 5th series.

I could be wrong, but I know for a fact our QB's are the deepest I have seen in a long time, the biggest question is experience.

I do hope one of the new QBs emerges and is clearly on another level than the others. My money for now is that Levi will be the QB and will remain so until he fails to perform.

Not a chance in hell Lewis starts over Hawkins. Give the newcomer 2 weeks. That's all he needs.
    I'm fired up! Let's GEAUX!!!!
