Thread: Louisiana backfield loaded with talent

  1. UL Football Louisiana backfield loaded with talent

The UL backfield is loaded this season and it’s the worst kept secret in college football.

Trey Ragas, Raymond Calais and Elijah Mitchell have preseason hype, accolades and expectations that challenge any in the history of Ragin’ Cajuns football.

We have an embarrassment of riches at the RB position for sure, especially for a mid-major. Hell with Regas, Mitchell, Calais sharing time and next men up Smith, Wisham and Orphey and next years addition of Pope and Bailey we're set for the next 6 years. Sidebar, I think UL has a Christian McCaffary type player in Brandon Legendre and should be moved to the backfield also, his body built and running style along with his catching ability could be a versatile weapon and be more effective there than as a receiver only.

Still need to have a serviceable pass game for our RB to have success if not they will stack the box and force us to

Agreed! ...hopefully our receivers Bradley, Jackson & Gossett will become more "explosive" off the snap as well as in and out of their breaks...they take too long to uncover no matter who's at QB.

I agree I found our routes last year to be simplistic hopefully after a full year in the system they have improved

This is why I said losing Chase might have cost us a game. HE was going top be that guy to keep the defenses from stacking the line.

we don't know how Chase was going to be since he was an unproven commodity especially after 2 surgeries on the same foot. All we had to go off of was his limited play in college and his performance in high school

Jacob Bernard is a really athletic WR who can be moved all over the field as well.

Jacob is going to be a important "Slot" receiver the next few years with Achan and Rogers (coming in) so I think it'll be important to get him some experience this year even if it's only those 4 (red-shirt rule) games.

Why does the Advertiser have this below their pic of Mitchell? Never mind, I know why.

"UL's Elijah Mitchell is an important part of the team's defense this year."
