Getting crappy with smack talkers on this board is one thing. Saying something like this to an analytical, never personal, level headed fan like this crosses the line like nothing I've seen on this board and I've seen a lot.
You owe this man an apology before you ever post here again.
I have made a decision, after today, to avoid any thread talking about men's basketball. There are too many on this board with an agenda, and for a few, it's been going on for some time. This season, I predict there will be people who downplay every single win we get and will magnify any loss, regardless of who we lose to. As a result, everything here gets blown out of proportion. And I truly believe (and saying you disagree won't change my mind) that there are a handful who have become so jaded with their hatred of Marlin that they want to see the program fail just so they can get a new guy in and say I told you so.
I'm not going to leave angry as I did a couple of years ago. I'm simply not going to participate in basketball threads. Those of You (and it's certainly not all of you) that like to wallow in misery no matter what can go right ahead.
Now, if I may, a word or two about the podcast. I know all three of you. I believe you've done a relatively good job on the football podcasts. Personally I'd like for you guys to be less of a fan and more of an analyst, but it's your show.
I also know you well enough to know that you are much more versed in your knowledge of football than you are in basketball. If I can make a suggestion to you, it would be to DVR the telecasts and go back and watch them. Go back and watch the games, following what happens away from the ball. You'll find yourselves much more credible and knowledgeable if you do that. It's going to make for a better podcast, trust me on that. Knowledge is power, at least that's what I've heard. If you're going to have a good podcast, you'll need to work a little harder.
Best of luck to you guys as you move forward.
Willis, you and I know each other and find you to be very knowledgeable and a great ambassador for this university. Having said that, I feel that the same commentary can be made for yourself in regards to coach Marlin. You have to work with these coaches in a very close capacity and you obviously get to know them more than just on gameday. For this, I feel you are more loyal to them and will always have their back per se. It doesn't always allow you to be as objective.
I have been critical of Marlin but in no way shape or form do I hope we lose so that he can be shown the door. I think most of us here would love for this thing to take a sharp turn north and create a proud program that knows little outside of winning. I've also stated that I'm approaching this year with optimism as it appears the staff really tried to overhaul the program's talent level and we'll see if that was accomplished.
While some here may be more vocal of their feelings on coach Marlin, its just plain hard to argue against 10 years of the facts that have been stated. The 2017 team is a prime example. That year was a special year with some special players and everyone was on board with what could have been only to smashed in the face by reality.
Regardless, I can't wait for the season and will be listening to you on the radio.
Anyone else feel an impending turn in this thread?
On this note, and again, I can't speak for the others, but I don't want to be 1420. I'm vermilion and white die hard. That's all I'll ever be. I'm not trying to be objective. I'm on that podcast to give a FANS perspective. I don't need to be an expert analyst to give a legitimate opinion, especially when it is seemingly the prevailing feeling of the fanbase. Again, just my opinion, but the beauty of having the podcast outlet is that you can be a little more honest and genuine. That's why I would listen, anyway.
Another small note. We haven't broken down any basketball games yet. We were merely having THE CONVERSATION. And projecting what the roster might be capable of.
Still, I think Jay should come on and tell all of the people that are down on MBB why they're wrong.
Thanks for the feedback Jay. You’ll see going forward that I’m actually much more knowledgeable in basketball, as I spent most of my childhood playing basketball. Actually never played football outside of peewee. So I think you’ll be very pleased with what you hear about this program. Now as for the perspective, we are a fan podcast. None of us are analysts. We offer a perspective and insight that you won’t get on 1420 or 103.7. That’s why I made this podcast. To give fans a different outlook.
