I got a chance to hear it all.

Very good overall, and fun. Hardly any BS excuses for Big Fish. I especially liked the fact that throw out best and worse seasons? We’re flat average in the SBC after a decade. Also liked the reveal of an utter failure to end that 24/7 season. Completely out talented an awful lil rock and lost. Same for Arlington even with a sick Gant and injured Stove we had more talent than Arlington.

Thanks for listening and thanks for the feedback especially. My honesty gets me in trouble but it makes for a good podcast, haha.

Per Matt, it will be back up on Spotify soon. Had to make some technical adjustments.

No argument with numbers as stats are facts. However there is no way that we had more talent than UTA in the 2018 semifinals when 2 of our top 6 players were out. That was virtually the same group of Mavs that won the league title in 2017 and had a couple of marginal pro prospects on their squad. They reached the NIT quarterfinals with that bunch. As a result of the health concerns, we had to count on guys who were fine as backups but were marginal starters in the semi finals. We just decided not to bring a couple of them back for this season. Time will tell if that was a good decision.

UTA finished 10-8 in the league in 2017. Several of those losses were by double figures. Ga St crushed them in the tourney final. Hervey and Neal were good, but they got very few consistent performances from anyone else. They also had reported big issues with team chemistry and locker room fracture, presumably because of Hervey's NBA aspirations and Cross being pressured by the AD. Sure Gant was sick, but our 5/6 best players were available and played. We were the overall better team (and if you remember, we were told by the staff that this was the 'deepest team we'd ever had') and DOMINATED UTA twice in the regular season.

That roster was loaded. It's unbelievable that we still can't get passed excuses 2 years later for what should have been a special moment for our program. Some see fit to explain their way through why it didn't pan out. Others see it for what it is and what it was at the time: justifying another missed opportunity.

Maybe I missed the year UTA got to NIT quarterfinals. Maybe it was 2016. Also Stove was not available in that game. We had four of our top 6 available. Personally I think they oversold the depth aspect. Not as good as claimed. Now the staff was responsible for that as all coaches are.

It was only 4 of the top 6 in that UTA game as both Stove and Gant were non factors, and Bryce played the majority of it with both nostrils stuffed with gauze. Like you said UTA was very inconsistent that year but Hervey and Neal were 2 of the best players in the conference and they were the one team I hated to play in that situation. I’m not trying to make excuses just saying it was a crappy situation for a game that hinged the season for a team that was that good and it still makes me sick to think about. There is nothing that can be said for the Little Rock loss, they should have been able to win that with 3 of the top 6 on the bench.

I listened to the podcast (2nd time as I also listened to the App St preview) and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I have no problem with “the conversation” as I think it is a valid subject to discuss at this point in Marlin’s tenure. I just hope that isn’t the main point of every basketball conversation y’all have as the season starts and you can focus more on on court analysis and you can wait and revisit it as the season winds down. One thing I will point out is Mylik Wilson was regarded by many as the top recruiti in the state last year but he was not Louisiana’s Mr. Basketball, Jalen Cook was named it as a Junior.

Mike I disagree. I wouldn’t trade Barkley, Washington,Stroman, Marquetti for anyone playing on UTA in that season. Yeah Gant was ill, and the spark plug Stove was injured. I’m taking those four in that year. I’m not blaming the players for the melt down. Marlin did what he does, get outcoached.
