It’s not a raffle dude. Of course you lose mostly. Feel free to go naked, I’m sure you can afford a few minor accidents.

Been with them (auto and home) for 60 years and turned in 2 claims which amounted to about $2,000 bucks over those 60 years. I paid in around $132K in premiums over the 60 years for a return of $2,000......now if my house burns down to the ground that's another story..........

Frenchie, sounds like you are praying for an insured claim. WOW, just wow. I don’t pay for insurance looking to come out ahead. I consider myself to be way ahead when I wagered on insurance and it was not needed.

Frenchie thinking insurance premiums are a poor investment. He’s right, the typical person loses. You’re paying for the unusual event.

Overall each insurance company are fortunate if their premiums cover the cost of commissions, claims, and other fixed and variable expenses. Those are called underwriting income. Generally the insurance commission won’t approve more than an expected break even. They make money by investing the premiums. Of course there’s always the battle to pay as little as possible to actually make an underwriting profit.

While I’ve never been asked to do anything unethical, I’ve seen many companies try to shortchange the claim. They can be fined far more than an individual claim is worth if found to be engaged in bad faith. To my knowledge such an individual event doesn’t kick in a complete audit of the company.
