I am fine with both starting as well, but I think it is fair to say they are the weakest positions on our team ... not counting special teams. RB, WR/TE and OL are all much stronger than our QB position in terms of experienced talent. On defense, outside of DL, I think all need to show improvement.
I really like our young talent in Moncrief, Cordova, Riley and Guidry at LB.
At corner we have guys like Garror, Butler, Washington, Holmes and McDaniel.
I am severely worried about place kicking duties. If Stevie comes back mentally and physically strong, I will breathe much easier.
The running back talent we have should make a QB look really good, if he can throw it just a little.
I believe this is the first year in a long time that predicting individual positions and their impact is almost futile. I’m with CajunT in saying that if he believed that strongly in one of them he wouldn’t have gotten 5 of them. I also truly believe he will coach one of them up and that QB will change our success going forward. (My sleeper is Fields) He’s got some goods prospects to work with. Other than RB, a select WR and Safety I believe he has A LOT of talent to coach up that we haven’t seen yet. He will coach players to have an immediate impact in yr 2. For some reason I believe Napier has the “it” we’ve been craving. We may not be world beaters this year but we will be good, BUT watch out for the future of the program!
P.S. I love the way our D-Line in shaping up! Would love to see an impact linebacker as well, a spot we’ve been needing someone with a relentless motor and leadership ability. I am excited about the future with Napier.
If Coach Napier is going to get the most out of his players, he will need to increase his energy and motivate them to play better than their talent.
