Robe got an exemption for Freeman to recruit off campus was because he(robe) was taking care of his father and not recruiting off campus. Not the same. This is new territory for us it seems

My point being, you don't have to have coaching experience to be a qualified pitching coach. Coach Deggs is the "Coach". Mr. Ryan just needs to know the arm and leg mechanics, motion, pitching technique etc. to teach pitching. Coach Deggs will do the rest.

Guidry had been working with the pitching staff at spring training for years before being named pitching coach. That’s why they felt comfortable with him even though his lack of experience. They actually wanted to hire him years before but Torre stuck with Stottlemyer

For all of those questioning if he can coach, please give it a rest. First of all, he's been volunteer coaching at a high school in Bossier a couple years already. Secondly and most importantly, HE HAS THE KNOWLEDGE of MLB Coaches and I've been told he's been offered multiple pitching coach jobs from MLB teams in the past 10 years. So y'all are laughable. He's good enough for an MLB team to hire him but gives you pause about our job? Give me a break. Do us all a favor and keep your worries to yourself.

This is hands down, a monumental hire for the program. He said he has zero interest in working with pros. He's much more interested in developing D1 players to BECOME pros. Like I said, this is massive.

For the record, I am not questioning his coaching at all. I’m concerned about having a pitching coach who won’t be able to recruit pitchers unless they come here for a visit

Good recruiters know how to recruit pitchers. They don't have to be a pitching coach.

And it wouldn’t even take a good recruiter to sell a pitcher on learning from BJ Ryan

If I had to take a stab at it, I’d bet BJ would prefer to not be out on the road recruiting sleeping in hotels every night...might actually work better for the staff this way.

Dang dude.....coming with the attitude. You could have provided all that info without calling out everyone. No one has been unreasonable in this conversation but that is social media today.

Haha, not trying to hurt anyone's feelings. I've just noticed people questioning it since the moment the rumor was mentioned and I found it a little absurd from the outset to think an MLB All-Star with roots in a Cajun uniform, now passing down his knowledge to our players, could be anything but a positive thing.

I'm just pumped for the hire. As should everyone be. I'll defend it all day long with some fire.
