Hawk, beyond the obvious connection of the past, Deggs is a couple mixed drinks away from being a top level P5 skipper. That’s from the coaching profession, not my opinion. We got lucky with him once. I think lightening may be striking again, and for once, this program is seeing some good fortune concerning timing.

With the circumstance around his passing, tradition and stability is more important than changing culture and winning.
Was about to post almost the same verbatim. I agree completely that under these circumstances Deggs is as good a hire as we can make

If it is Deggs the asst. coaches shuffle gets interesting. He has a long history with Talbot, who helped him out after getting canned at A&M. Obviously worked with Babb closely and then you have Wells who has done a good job but certainly crosses over into Deggs specialty.

As was discussed before could we see a "volunteer" coach for pitching and if so what is the chance his last name is Robichaux........

If it is Deggs then JT or Wells will be history, possibly both. I doubt Austin or Justin would come and work for free when they have a family to support. And we would need to hire a staffed pitching coach with experince not depend on someone for free.

Who said we didn't do a national search. I'm sure they evaluated all of those who expressed interest in the program.

Don’t be so sure about JT

His long history with JT didn’t translate into bringing him to SHSU with him.

True. Although, JT was not back in D1 Coaching yet when Deggs wen't to Sam. Robe hired JT from his High School Coaching gig on Degg's recommendation after he left. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if JT remains with the program in some capacity due to his friendship with Deggs. I just hope that Deggs makes the right decision in this regard, JT would not provide anything substantial to what Deggs can do. Deggs is a hitting coach, and he's a top recruiter. JT was recently taken off the Hitting Coach role AND recruiting. I just don't see how keeping JT on staff helps our program. I'd much rather pay a new Pitching Coach, which is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT for this transition after losing one of, if not the best, pitching coaches in the entire country.

With that being said, I really like JT as a person. He's a great guy if you ever get a chance to visit with him. Would feel bad to lose him, but for the betterment of the program, I feel as though it's necessary.

Watch, it's probably not even Deggs and Maggard has us all fooled. Lol. What if Gautreau is the ace up the sleeve?

And Well's hitting approach is similar to Coach Deggs. Right now, if he is the choice I don't see much change in the staff his first year on campus. For the right reasons.

I thought Robe had kept JT as his primary field recruiter and Wells was the hitting coach.
