Just maybe

There's also a plane coming from Marion, Illinois, which is home to the Southern Illinois Miners minor league baseball team. Is Maggard playing with us?
Are we selling ourselves short going after Deggs, being a former coach, instead of doing a national search for a well supported, well known program with tradition, strong recruiting base, and new stadium?
If it is Deggs, which I think is a safe assumption at this point, he is familiar with the program. Was instrumental in getting us to a #1 ranking and hosting a Super Regional. Then moved onto a HC position at a lesser program and won 3 of 5 SLC titles and took them to the Super Regionals as well.
He is very qualified and has ties to the program.
Nows not the time for a dramatic change in tradition in baseball. Deggs knows the tradition that we have here of not only creating winners on the field, but in life. If we had let robe go after the season, just normally without the passing, I'd say go national do what it takes and win. With the circumstance around his passing, tradition and stability is more important than changing culture and winning.
If you look at Deggs' track record when he was here, he recruited grinders who were mentally tough and ready to throw down. And he recruited these guys to a "vieux la grange" of a baseball stadium. With the resources we have now since then, I would be shocked if Deggs couldn't produce successful teams here. Plus, he's playing in a better baseball conference as well that should position us for regional spots compared to where he was in the Southland.
He is also a familiar face to this fan base. Sometimes, our fans tend to latch on to coaches. In this case, we get the best of both worlds. We already know the guy, and he's successful. Win win.....
