I’m gonna go out on a limb Boomer. The only person currently, on staff, with enough history to be loved is Bab, so some “sounds” a bit too broad.

Same here. Given the circumstances I think that is needed. If you don't do that there is considerable risk that current athletes have a difficult time adjusting (right or wrong) and now your problems are compounded.

I know this is hardly comparable but after Pope John Paul II it was thought that the next Pope was never going to be revered in the way John Paul II was. So basically Pope Benedict more or less filled the gap creating a buffer before Francis arrived. More or less to take the church into the future without it being overly influenced by it's past.
With all due respect, you couldn't be further off base. The next hire will be the man to lead us into the future. This won't be some stop-gap hire, the off-season just started. This is the clean slate.

With that being said, don't be surprised if we have a new head coach within the next 2 weeks. I have heard things are moving quickly. Just a hunch that it'll be sooner rather than later.

Yes, I’ve heard similar things as well. I would think sometime early-August.

Agreed. Expecting a great hire relatively soon. Our biggest fan is pulling strings upstairs.

Agreed. I think a link to recent past is helpful for all the reasons stated.

Basically says Maggard keeps it close to the vest but what he's heard from sources in Lafayette and other areas is that not many candidates discussed besides Deggs at this point. Says pay is not an issue from his sources and it's basically up to Deggs.

Not a huge update, but Rogers tends to think we're getting closer

    He closes with:

If I was a betting man, I’d still place all my chips on Matt Deggs being the next head man for the Cajuns. But stay tuned. Maggard is an excellent AD and a master chess player type, and absolutely could have a surprise up his sleeve.

For now, it’s Deggs for me.

I am sure more would like the job. Not sure there are more seriously competitive candidates out of 300 total D1 programs that would want to take time to apply.
