I think anyone applying for this job should have reservations about trying to fill Tony's shoes. If he doesn't, he is probably not the right person for this particular job.

I won't post them, but pretty much what I stated. The emotions of the moment may have been some of the fuel for his reservations. Let me also say when he accepted the position at Sam Houston, he told me prior to going on the air for an interview he wanted to return to Texas. Those two things makes me believe he may not want the job in this manner, meaning following Robe's unexpected death. Now, I have no idea if he will completely remove himself from the process or just want some time to think about it. I like many would love to see him in Lafayette, but this is a difficult decision for him considering how close to Tony he was and gives him the credit for saving his life.

Interesting. Although, it wouldn't seem right for him to say he wants the job while in town for Robe's funeral. Him being in Texas definitely makes since, but it would also make sense to say that after accepting the job. I always thought he would want to position himself to take the A&M job when Childress was done. Anyways, thanks for the insight.

If Deggs wants the job, I agree it makes the most sense. His players at UL loved him as much as they loved Robe from the guys I talked to at the time. He understands the culture, too.

In the end, I trust Maggard to make the right call.

Deggs has a good gig. This is not a P5 job, but its a top if not the top mid major job. Its not the SEC or Big 12. while i do think its a step up from where he is it is still a lateral move so to speak.

The one thing that concerns me in the transition process in what happens with Bab, should he not move up a spot.

He has displayed great loyalty to the school, team and Robe. The second tragedy would be Bab somehow dealt out in this process. Praying that does not happen.

Changes will be made eventually, I don't see Dr Maggard tying the hands of the next coach, at least not long term. I trust Dr Maggard to do the right thing by the athletes and coaches, but we as fans need to be rational and not emotion when it comes to those decisions.

Cajuns are so blessed Dr. Maggard is right here, right now.

I am still not believing this whole thing.

If Deggs wanted to be in Texas (and may still feel that way), I see that like Robe wanting to be home too. Respect it for what it is and move on. I’m sure Maggard will look at that aspect closely.

Returning home to Texas as a HC is a lot different than staying in Louisiana as an assistant. Sometimes you don’t miss something until you leave it. Coming back as the HC with the new stadium and under these circumstances is a lot different than him leaving “to go home” the last time.
