As long as there is an honest dialogue (we are building X for $y million, or “we are not renovating because of X, Y, and Z), I’m good. It’s hard to justify renovating a football stadium when you already have trouble selling tickets, and it’s only used 5-6 times per year. Id consider myself a pretty big UL fan, but I think it would be fiscally irresponsible for spending too much on this project.
Baseball was different. Tickets were selling. People were going to games. It’s ised 28 times per year. Etc.
Look around the country, you aren’t going to find very many college football stadiums or outdoor stadiums (with capacities under 30-40,000) hosting non-football events.
You might be able to attract private high school football state championship, but you will be bidding on that hosting spot with a few other cities.
You aren’t going to attract a large artist to play there. Find a band that plays in a less than 40k seat outdoor stadium. There aren’t that many.
You will still have a few marching band competitions, which aren’t exactly money pits
Overall, you’re still looking at 7 (5 football dates, 1 high school band event, and 1 marching band event over the summer) dates, with 1-2 more events, if you’re lucky.
Don’t want to bust y’alls bubble, but people aren’t lining up to schedule events, even with a renovation.
You know how many other places there are to host meetings and luncheons in Lafayette? We are going to renovate in the hope that people decide to get their events at Cajun field instead of the Petroleum club? The place on Kaliste Saloom (river something)? City club? Oh, the CajunDome? And the countless other venues?
Even assuming north Texas stadium is booked up every week, what makes you think that will generate sufficient revenue to justify the cost?

You’re right, what am I thinking...who would rather attend/host a luncheon overlooking a renovated college football field when you can go to the dying Petroleum Club that is desparate to get new members being 90%+ of their members are Fossils...and don’t get butthurt so easily, I just used your own lingo
When it comes to driving revenue to your sports program, football drives the bus! That's not even debatable. You think ESPN and other networks negotiate television contracts with conferences for baseball or softball? A winning football program drives the wagon and branding to your athletic program. College MBB is second to football, but it's not close in pure revenue dollars.
