Thread: UL has big decision to make on Cajun Field renovation

    Efficiency and affordability.

Those two factors will be weighed heavily as the University of Louisiana decides how to spend between roughly $45 million to $65 million on a long-planned renovation of its football stadium, Cajun Field, Ragin’ Cajuns athletic Bryan Maggard told The Daily Advertiser.

Interesting to anyone else? On to bigger and better things?

“Well, if it’s five to 10,” he said, “then I’m not gonna be athletic director here anymore. I’d like to think it’s certainly gonna be sooner than that.”

There was a fatal flaw in the Master Plan.

Due to the importance to the future of the athletic program and the university itself, a multi-purpose Cajun Field with office space and luxury spaces should have been #1 on the list instead of last.

    It's not personal. It's business.

Yes and that is why we are behind along with geographic economic changes in the region. If we had done it like most other athletic programs, we would have started with the APC, Stadium, Baseball, Softball and Track & Field. But we just started building facilities without a long term vision plan.

We have some funds, the question remains how much will be bonded out? I understand why three different designs will be done. If gives us the option to do it in phases like Arkansas State. Dr Maggard is trying to do this right, it's unfortunate we are a year behind where they wanted to be at this phase because this athletic program was ran like a hog dog stand during the previous administration.

But, but, but, but he raised $2M over his 4 years after the master plan was announced.

.......Don’t forget the student cafeteria, reception hall, and possible faculty after hours gathering place!

Long article to say we don’t know what the plan is or when it will start. But we did find out Maggard will not be here in 5 years.

Perhaps the choice of what and how the stadium will be upgraded is going to be revealed during this football season. Only 3-5 months from now.

I knew reading his comment in context would clarify..

“For me, it can’t happen soon enough,” Maggard said.

“But I’m also wise enough to know there’s just certain things you can’t control, so … it would be pretty premature of me to even try to speculate on that.

“Trust me,” he added, “I’d love to (say), but I don’t know.”

Asked, though, if he was talking a few more years, five to 10 years or 10 to 20, Maggard did answer that.

“Well, if it’s five to 10,” he said, “then I’m not gonna be athletic director here anymore. I’d like to think it’s certainly gonna be sooner than that.”

He's saying that if he doesn't get the project done in an efficient timeline, he'll be shown the door. Meaning, it needs to get done. It was in jest.

Please get out of here with your reading comprehension, Maggard clearly said he hates it hear and hopes to be gone in less than 5 years.

That's how I read it as well. If it takes that long, he would be ____ at his job. Also if it takes that long, it will never happen.

If it takes that long, it will be bcecause T Joe and company put too many roadblocks in Maggard's way for him to get it done.

I believed he claimed that $3 Mil had been raised and they had another $4 Mil or $5 Mil in commitments. The truth was he had neither.

If it takes that long, we will likely have missed our last opportunity at realignment and it won't matter at that point. I always said we did this ___ backwards and this should have been priority #1. Nice to see Maggard agrees with that. Some here have argued otherwise.

Not disagreeing but the baseball stadium was embarrassing and that is the only thing that should have come before Cajun Field. Maybe the size of the task was beyond the previous administration.
