Let me say this.....sometimes statistics tell the story. Sometimes there's more to it than that.
In the case of Windham vs. Loch, there were at least 8-10 balls hit to third this year that Windham would have gotten to that Loch did not. They weren't charged errors. The thing IMO that makes Windham pretty special at 3B are his instincts and his reflexes. In that vein, he's just better.
Loch had hit well in the fall and spring which is why he was at 3B to open the season. When he got sick and Windy went in, coaches saw he was starting to figure it out offensively and we all knew who was the better defensive 3B. We'll never know what Windy would have hit had he not gotten hurt and his .250 is a (shudder) small sample size.
I respect Loch for gutting it out every day and fighting through his injuries and his offensive woes. And the times (especially down the stretch) when he got some key hits, I was really happy for him.
The game where Loch finally broke that long hitless streak was great. Had 3 hits and it was just great to see the kid get rewarded.
As mentioned before, its not always on the stat sheet, but a 3B like Windham makes Cantrelle better. Settles him down. In the same way a true 1B will make the others better as well. Not forcing a throw to 1B to try and fit it on a postage stamp because the guy at 1B just doesnt have the range and in the end that forces you to make a bad throw. Both of those areas being better next year would be a big boost to our fielding percentage. Cantrelle had a down year fielding-wise. As strange as it seems, lot of that has to do with others around him (not saying all of it is down to that.)
Is Loch coming back? I think I remember someone saying this was his last year??
Might be a question for Billy to ask Bab
From all accounts, he will not return. He will graduate in the summer.
