Thread: Former Cajuns - Baseball

  1. Default Re: Former Cajuns - Baseball

So we have 7 seniors gone and 1 probably drafted and those are:

Kasuls/Veillon/Monica/Lahare/McKinnon/Leger and Cox and the one draftee in Lott.

Here are the guys that will be back for sure barring injury and/or there choice:

    Cantrelle/Breaux/Spears/Perrin/Savoy/Schultz and Young

The following have a chance, but they are all coming back from injury so it is a big ?.

    Bradford/Burk/Bourgeois/Toro and Windham

    Some question marks

    Armstrong/Wiley/Leaumont/Hannie/Lochridge

This last group are probably all gone unless they have huge off season improvements:

    Camp/B-Schultz/Cooke/Horton/Mitchell/Batty/Frank/Dupuy.Joffoin/Stone

Thoughts and am I missing anyone?

I would think that entire injured group you mentioned would be back. Bradford, Bourgeois, Toro, and Windham I’m pretty sure were mentioned by Robe in his last interview with Auzene.

Lochridge being gone is a done deal I think. I don’t think your list of guys most likely gone is necessarily wrong, but that would sad if that comes to pass. That would be 8 out of those 10 that came from the high school ranks. In addition, that would mean every single Freshman from the 2019 roster would be gone. This rebuild with a bunch of JCs coming in to give us some age next year sounds fun, but at some point, we have got to do better recruiting at the HS level or at least give those guys the proper amount of time and opportunities to prove themselves. It’s confusing to push out a guy like Coker who showed flashes as a Freshman in favor of someone like Lochridge who wound up making the 2nd most errors on the team, hit for the lowest batting average among starters by almost .100, and is leaving baseball after this year.

I think not having Windham this year was huge......Windham defensively was unreal in 2018 and although no, question Lochridge was our best defensive option this year at 3rd, Windham was a game changer. not only that but he would have given us a guy at the bottom of the lineup that would have hit much better than Loch and would have solidified the infield. At worst I think Windham would have been a .240 hitter.

Also, losing Gavin for the entire season and Lahare for a huge chunck of it hurt allot.

It’s hard to say the biggest injury wasn’t someone on the pitching staff with how bad and depleted that group was, but losing Windham, like you said, was just devastating. The drop off between starter and 2nd team was steep.

They made a decision on pitchers. New or old injuries didn't help the experienced staff this year and the freshmen were spotty at best.

Offensively we are up 38 points from last year and the highest in 5 years. I think we are on the right track in an upward trend .

Defensively we are not that good. .972 fielding is nothing to write home about. Too many errors this year.

Pitching we are not good with a team ERA over 5. (I sure wish we could get Cox back though).

Pitching and defense were lacking this year and that’s what Coach Rob values more than anything.

defensively he was a game changer....So in that way he would have stopped runs, and offensively he would not have left us with a hole at the #9 position. Lochridge was a problem offensively, teams could pitch right at him and almost be guarenteed an out. Windham would not have been that easy of an out, so pitching directly to him would not have been an option.

When you think of our team BA and how much it was improved, we did that with an everyday starter hitting sub .180 all season. Windham was hitting .250 when he got hurt.

Oh by the way, Lochridge Fielding % in the games he played .937, Windham's fielding % in the games he played 1.000% I know JW would not have finished the season with a 1.000% Fielding %, but it would have been significantly higher than Lochridge's.

So think about the runs he would have saved alone, and the runs he would have knocked in. I can't tell you how many times Lochridge was up with runners on and either 1 or 2 outs and either struck out or did not move the runners.

The Windham loss hurt quite a bit, if nothing more than defensively that would have been a game changer alone.

I agree pitching was the weakest point for us all season, but that loss at 3rd was huge. Also Loch was a good option as a backup at 3rd, but as you saw at the end of the season when we needed to play someone else at 3rd it ended up being our all SBC 2nd baseman Hunter Kasuls (because of Defense), and we had to play a guy in Dupuy at 2nd, Conner hit .200 on the season.

We just did not have many options once Windham got hurt.
