Thread: Former Cajuns - Baseball

  1. #1

    Default Former Cajuns - Baseball

Blake Faecher has committed to Sam Houston (a team who swept us this season).

Luke Coker has signed to play at Elon who lost their conference tournament championship game in extra innings.

Haden Erbe is committed to regional host West Virginia.

Three guys on to successful D1 programs after being on campus here just last season. Plenty of players with eligibility left will have to be let go to make room for this influx of 23-27 new players. Should be interesting to see how many let go have D1 careers elsewhere and how the newcomers here pan out.

“Committed” doesn’t mean you are on scholarship. Just sayin

After the season we just had, we probably could’ve used those 3 “committed” here.

Not meant to be a bashing thread. Just an observation that at some point the shuffling out of guys for new guys who will in turn be shuffled out has to stop.

This group coming in is said to be 23-27, many of them JCs. Would like to see a number of these guys drafted after their time here or at least finishing out their eligibility.

"On scholarship" doesn't mean as much for baseball like it does other sports due to the partial scholarship limitations thanks to title 9

No doubt several from this years team will be let go. It’s simple math. A totally new look next season.

A few years ago I never was one who bought into the idea that game was changing and the kids are different. But I’m seeing it now. It’s harder to get those hard nose kids that refuse to lose. And it’s not just here either.

At this level you evolve or get left behind in the dust.

Same with football, basketball or baseball many of great coaches have been left behind

    This is interesting:

Blake couldn't hit the broad side of a barn at UL, he went to Blinn JUCO and hit .282 with 6 HR's. Be interesting to see how he does at SHSU.

Luke was a guy who in limited opportunities showed some promise at UL, but only played in 13 games with 6 starts. He went to Pensacola State JUCO and it .302 with 2 HR's and 22 RBI.

Haden pitched in only 3 games at UL in 2017 with a 3.38 ERA, if I am not mistaken he suffered through injuries while at UL. I know he was a guy that UL was really hoping could help in 17 and 18. He ended up at Seminole State and he went 8-3 with 1 save and a 4.40 ERA. He started 13 of the 14 games he pitched in and was 2nd on the team in innings pitched with 77.2 innings pitched in 14 games.

The other player that I was surprised to see not back this year was another injury plagued guy in Jacob Norman who will be playing for the Acadiana Cane Cutters this season who pitched for LSUA in 2019, Brett Williams who pitched for McLennan JUCO this season and Jimmy Dobrash who pitched for Smith Mountain Community College this season.

Erbe had to get innings this year per the staff so he went out to Juco. Ironic that he could've had plenty of innings here

I guess we have proven that until this year we had the worst hitting coach in the history of history. Maybe our recruiting has been ok, big maybe, but our evaluation of talent once here has been nearly as bad as our offensive coaching, until this year.

Only the good Lord know how many baseball careers we have torpedoed in the last three years.
