Getting the right support staff is important in all sports. I’ve seen declines in many successful sports programs amateur and pros after the departure of top assistants. The same thing has happened here on several occasions. Robe has decided to keep a key assistant that arrived with the beginning of our decline. Frankly I’m doubtful that is the right move. Hopefully he’s right.

It’s his job to lose, not ours. I hope he is right also but if I were in his position I would also want to be in charge of my own fate as I’m sure most would like that as well in their professions. People rarely mention he was also the guy that made decisions that brought us success. Lately it seams some only want to point to his failures. Sometimes things just don’t work out like you planned.

Yes, just like the coach at Rice. Sometimes, the same message from one guy no longer carries much weight with players.

I’m not saying it’s time for Coach Robe to go, but what I am saying is he should not have some lifetime contract either. Managers in the private sector grow stale. Coaches grow stale. Politicians grow stale. Fact of life.

Tom Landry was fired. Chuck Noll was about to be before he stepped down.

He’s found face saving exits for his prior assistant mistakes, rarely an outright release. He’s betting the farm on Talbot. That’s the same coach whose been the main recruiter. Again hopefully he’s right.

When we played in the regional at Houston Wayne graham could barely make it out the dugout. He is 83, tony is 57 years old. I’m not suggesting the guy has a lifetime contract. As I said earlier, everybody has a “it’s time to go” in their head..people have different opinions on when that is. I’m not ready to give up on tony yet, if you are that’s fine also. This season was a stinker but the previous 2 weren’t terrible. They weren’t up to standards but they still won almost 40 Games in 17 and 18. It’s not like it’s been 3 straight years of this. The last time we were in the exact position and the “game passed tony by” he made changes that led us to the best 4 year stretch in history. Will that happen again? Don’t know but are you willing to bet against tony turning it around?I'm
    Not

So he convinced other schools to hire his assistants to save face? And you want to get rid of a magician like that?

Nobody is immune. I just wish we were as consistently in the postseason as Southern Miss. Let's start there.

I wish we were in the postseason every year like softball. Pretty sure everyone here wants the same things in regards to results. We just have different opinions on how to get there.

And even they had a 4 year stretch with no post season (before this next 4 years in a row that they were in.) But I agree that we should strive to be more consistent. If USM can make it to 9 regionals in a row, I just find it hard to understand how our best ever stretch is 4

13 regionals in the last 17 seasons, compared to our 7. USM was transitioning from an ill Corky Palmer to the new guy when they missed those 4 in a row. At least our coaches have been able to stay off injured reserve, so that excuse is off the table, for now.

USM is in a smaller state competing with TWO SEC teams for players. One would think USM is a good comp for us.

Berry made it his first two years then nothing for 4 and now back 4 in a row. So yeah there was some transition. Vaguely similar to how we made it for the two years after Deggs then nothing since

McNeese makes it 2 of last 3 years, meanwhile we’re sitting home.
