Just a guess but part of the waiver may be due to the fact that he went to prep school and will be 5 years removed from high school next year.

I don't remember anybody pumping up Gladney or Hayes. They were going to have an opportunity to fill a role we needed and we were hoping they could do this well but I don't recall any type of expectations for either.

I think just about everyone knew what you were referencing when you made the comment. Well almost everyone...

You’re right. The juco kid was a role player not an major answer. Gladney was a guy who might be very good in year two or three. But he was viewed as part of a real good class somehow.

I will admit to pumping up Hayes a little bit before last season. I thought he would separate himself from Hardy on the depth chart and challenge Russell for a starting spot. He was a highly rated JUCO and at that level showed he could score from all over the floor unlike what we had seen from Russell as a freshman when he really didn’t do much besides shoot threes. Hayes never seemed to adjust to the speed of the game at the D1 level. It was surprising to me that he couldn’t find his way into the rotation even after the Marquetti injury. I think the staff had higher expectations too or he wouldn’t have been here.

I wasn’t expecting much from Gladney last year and think he probably should have been redshirted after the concussion issues. Keep in mind he wasn’t even able to practice from the start of the fall semester up until sometime in early December.

I wish we could have kept a guy like Gladney for the future. He's young and raw but I saw some athleticism that this team could really use down the road, especially with his ability to guard the rim and rebound. Would have liked to see him develop here and become potentially a solid role player.

He definitely showed the athleticism. I remember when we played Little Rock last year looking at the Bankston kid they had and thinking that could be what Gladney could become. Bankston was just a scrapper down low who rebounded, blocked shots, and dunked. I think he had over an 80% field goal percentage because he was just dunking.

I wish he would have stayed and developed as he had the tools to be a spark on both ends. He looked lost most of the time he was in games last year which is to be expected of freshmen. But you could definitely see the potential. Him leaving is very interesting as far as scholarship numbers go. I’ll be looking for an announcement in the next few weeks with fingers crossed.

I dont really see posters "pumping" guys up so much as just being fans and getting excited about their potential.

I just wonder if the concussion issue is continuing ... I expect Mike knows more.

Well when it was first announced, I jumped to that conclusion, who knows?

I settled on it being a continuation of last summer when reportedly his stated goal was 'to find himself.'
