I talked to his dad yesterday at UL prospect camp that my son participated in. He got to Maryland a few days before that kid died on the practice field. He said the program stayed in limbo very long an no one knew what was going to happen. At UTEP he was recruited heavily by an offensive coordinator and play caller to a system that fit him. A new head coach comes in and changes the offense and takes over the play calling. He enrolled in JUCO this past January. He is not eligible yet but they are appealing and hope he will be by fall camp.

I figured as much. From all accounts, very respectable family.

Really nice guy. Hawkins has a "little" brother that's a 315 lb jr that was at the camp being looked at as well.

"Walk-ons who receive financial aid and non-recruited walk-ons can also leave without sitting out. The new rules go into effect for student-athletes who transfer to new schools this fall."

He's got Division II offers. He is a little under sized and was somewhat unknown going into the summer. He is definitely on more folks radar today than he was in May. His position coach at the camp Saturday told him he had a great day and he was very impressed with him. He said he thought he performed the best out there on Saturday at his position. There were kids out there with some pretty big offers in hand. He has a few FCS in state taking hard look since their camps also. I think it's because he was at UTEP last fall.

His daddy actually said it's because of his stop at the juco last semester. He didn't go into detail on the rule that states the reason for his ineligibility.

I've watched his son a lot over the last 2 years. If he had the stature of his cross town rival he'd have D1 offers no doubt. Kid is accurate and can flat out spin it.
