Thread: BB G1 Final: UL 9, TX State 13

I still think it's,a lack of focus over lack of talent.

I'm not saying the talent is abundant, but the lack of focus sure is.

Everybody is correct. To be this bad we probably lack talent, focus, coaching and several other essentials.

Mental toughness, ie focus separates hall of fame players from journeymen. What’s between your ears, and in your heart almost always matter more than the physical which is often indistinguishable.

Still nobody is making a silk purse from a pigs ear.

We had an injured 5 foot 8 guy at 1st for awhile.

This UL team has the talent. The players are at the mercy of their coaching. Problem is the players are being held responsible for something they're being taught and asked to do when it doesn't get good results.

And, yes leaving a player alone to play the way he knows how is a very good solution to solving under-achieving performance. when what he's being taught and asked to do isn't working. But to get coaches to do that is asking a lot.
We just switched hitting coaches after 4 years of declining production. The last guy sucked and is still running recruiting. Both assistant coaches are catchers. Nobody coaches the eight other defensive positions with any experience.

If coaching drives the bus, then we suck at that. I'll ask again. What needs to change?

I think the head guy has shown that he doesn’t want to make the hard decisions for the betterment of the program. I think he should retire on his terms (he deserves that opportunity) and we start fresh.

    Remember Frenchie’s post before responding!!!

I have no problem with anyone holding that opinion. Frankly, that leap is getting shorter for many. I'll hold out hope until it's gone.

That last part wasn’t for you, btw.

Exactly. Business, sports, family.... it doesn't matter. When things go really bad it rarely is one common denominator. A lot of things have to go wrong.

When you're talking hitting, physical body-movement is more important. The sequence in which the body moves to swing a bat is crucial to ball striking and timing. Squaring up the ball with the bat and timing adjustments result from the sequencing of body movement. Anyone can get it accomplished every now and then, but to do it consistently requires efficient body movement sequencing. The more efficient the more consistency will be the result.
