Coaches coach. A system is just a tool.

Give a feminist a bazooka and we’re all dead.
And, that's my point. All coaches teach something. It either works or it doesn't. Need some accountability for results. And, IMO, need to stop blaming the players.

After hitting just .263 with 18 home runs in 2012, the Cajuns exploded under Deggs' direction in 2013. At the conclusion of the regular season the Cajuns were ranked inside the Top 5 in the NCAA in eight offensive categories.

In two full seasons with the Ragin' Cajun baseball program, Deggs and his aggressive "Pack Mentality" offensive style has helped the Cajuns in amassing a 101-30 overall record, a Sun Belt Conference regular season championship, a Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship and a regional championship.

I thought you wanted to discuss the vast immediate improvement Deggs made at Sam Houston?

The players are not at fault. They are simply not put in position to be successful.

The answers and the fixes are a whole lot more complex than that my friend.

The kids on this roster do not, and have not for 3 years, possess the mentality that it takes to win at a high level, consistently. Average talent performs well some nights, and poorly other nights. That’s the difference.

Coaches are responsible for recruiting AND developing. I fault the entire staff for this dumpster fire that we have on our hands.

I spent a lot of time around elite pro golfers and elite baseball players amateur and pro. Many years. If they don't have confidence in their ability, it won't happen. Confidence results from achievement resulting from talent and development. One without the other is less valuable than both, obviously.

We still leave runners in scoring position by the dozen. Poor hitting instruction from 2015-2018 was partly to blame. The rest is due to the talent deficit.

I don't dodge a discussion. And, I also don't put spin on or make excuses for talented players not producing. A head coaching change deserves and almost always requires a one-year adjustment period for players. An assistant coach not so much and usually not at all.

Here's what, IMO, you fail to understand, Dad04. Spinning and giving excuses for under-achieving play will only extend the under-achieving. You gotta fix the problem. Now, where you and I disagree is that you don't see under-achievement. You think you see a lack of talent problem. Well, you can recruit all you want and you'll still get the under-achievement that's happening now. Good luck enduring that.

So, what does the team need?

My friend, it's not complex, it's about teaching and execution on the field. Making it complex is a big part of the problem. Again, coaches will teach something whether it's good or bad instruction. A confident mentality in players comes from competent teaching and knowing they can produce. When a player is being taught something that's not producing for him he'll surely lose some confidence.

We've given up 7 runs in 4 innings today, John. Do we need a new pitching coach, head coach, both?
