In addition to the attributes mentioned in the attached article, plan is for Smith to also provide shot blocking and rim protection. I would not be surprised if a transfer from a four year school joins the program at a later date. I have no idea if it will be Dion Brown's son or not. If it is not him, I still think they will target one in the portal due to the recent success in going that route. Reason I said later date is those are usually announced in the summer after the player completes the semester at his current school.
I also noticed that Tirus Smith has a younger brother, Treylan Smith, who is heading into his Senior year of high school at Petal. He is one of the top recruits in Mississippi and has offers from Mississippi St and UCF among others. It will be interesting to see if we make an offer, the brothers would have a chance to play one season together.
The information I have is we are trying to lineup a visit for him. If he does visit, that will be encouraging as little has changed facility wise since he was here in March of 2018. Some players are moving on and others are coming in but that happens everywhere. Coach Johnson has left and we are in the process of trying to replace him. That is also not unusual. My RP vacation was fine and came at a good time. Like all of us, there are other things in life that we need to deal with.
We probably will have an idea of which players will be moving on when the semester ends as academics can play a role in those decisions. You may find out sooner if any of them announce it on their own. I guess one could review the transfer portal to find out if anyone on the squad this past year has put their name on it. I have not and don't plan to. We will find out soon enough who is leaving. At this point, only one has to leave as the signing of Smith puts us at 14 scholarships for next year and you can only have 13.
