Thread: BB G1 Final: LA 8, UTA 9

I am with lifetimecajun, Gunner made the pitches he needed to, we just couldn’t quite make the plays defensively. It’s a tough and confusing loss, but I don’t blame Robe for sticking with Gunner. We just need to defense to make those plays to seal the deal.

I put Gunner in the camp of Hunter Moody, if he is 50% healthy or better, I’ll take him over anyone else. That’s not a knock on our bullpen, that’s a compliment to Gunners proven ability over the last few years.

And to be quiet honest I'd take Gunner at 60% over the rest of the bullpen in that situation strictly because of the pressure issue. We had already used Armstrong and Lamount. Again, we failed to turn not one but two double plays that would of sealed the deal. He made the pitch when he needed to. The defense didn't get it done.
This and especially when your pitcher does not have all his best stuff, the defense needs to step up. They booted this game.

Let the pitcher off the hook after that 8th inning and blame the defense for the lost after saying Leger didn't have is best stuff. Cantrell lost the game...well la-de-da..........

No pitcher should ever have to get 9 outs to finish a game after 1 out in the 8th. Call it how you see it, I called it like it was. And it was not just Cantrelle, he had plenty help in that respect on the left side of the infield.

Let’s not act like Gunner still could have gotten out of the jam in the 8th if he didn’t walk the next two batters and then hit a batter after the 1st double play attempt. And the whole inning started with back to back singles.

And what about the ball going straight to Cantrelle that Loch tried to cut off and booted. That two extra outs to get out the 8th.

Check the stats, Gunner had 1 earned run and 4 unearned.

I think you misunderstood my post. Not blaming Cantrelle. Without his errow we should have gotten out with a win. It shouldn't have gotten that far. I go back to the 8th inning where the game turned around when a change should have been make after the first walk rbi.......

I think they are playing up to potential. That's the problem.

We blew an early 3 run lead and let UTA back in it, Leger should have been pulled, Cantrelle should have turned the DP. All of this contributed to the loss. It’s not against the law to pull Leger in the middle of an inning. It happens. He’s human. Robe did what Robe does. Leaves a pitcher in too long. 5 runs (4 earned) in 3 innings for someone out of the pen. No excuse for that.

One of the problems presented itself early in the 8th, and was known to a reasonable degree.

The other problem was unknowable but just as influential.

You can only adjust for the known.
