They probably should have but we don’t take Jake wells from Alabama 2 years ago. Hindsight it’s easy to see, much easier than replacing one of your coaches coming off a super regional and regional host. Robe isn’t perfect and he would be the first to tell you that and the man is loyal to a fault but that’s not the worst thing a person can have as a fault. He knows these guys wife and kids, easier for fans to kick those guys to the curb than for him.
Personally, I don't like the wife and kids comment here. It's understandable but I think people forget that it affects everyone in the program. What about the coach doing their job and not relying on loyalty to stay employed? What about the volunteer coach not collecting any compensation? What about the Todd Lotts of the world who decided to play his 3 or 4 years of college ball here and had 2 of them wasted and possibly hurting his professional aspirations to a point of no return. Loyalty to one affects dozens in this situation. You and anyone else is free to disagree. This is my opinion.
Again, it’s easy for us to sit here and feel that way. Maybe JT was doing his job in the confines in which his boss asked him. All we see is results. Loyalty can also serve you well in situations. He has to hire people and get them here, what candidate pool would put their hat in the ring for a boss that will toss you away instantly if things don’t go as planned? These guys pick up their families and move them when they change jobs. JT worked under Deggs and knew his system, nobody was complaining when the hire was made at the time. It’s real easy to sit back from afar and have all the answers when you aren’t out there working everyday. Just like any job, everyone else can do it better and have all the hindsight. Todd Lott’s pro aspirations are not the goal here, he could have went straight from high school when he was drafted if that’s all he cared about.
It's not a bad thing to help someone into a new profession they are better suited for, even if they have a wife, and/or kids, for their family's sake, as well as the organization's well being. Leaving an incompetent in place is unwise. We cut players every year and nobody loses a minute of sleep.
I still think it was amazing we won 34 games last year with that weak offense. Won nearly every close game and the West Division when we were near the bottom of nearly every offensive stat. Might have been Tony's best coaching job from game management perspective in a long time.

Nobody is kicking anyone to the curb. Talbot was the hitting coach when we really fell off the map as an offense. He’s also the been the chief talent evaluator and recruiter. That’s been badly lacking and still not consistent.
Take your pick, poor recruiting , or coaching development.
This is a tough business. You’re either at the top or should be replaced. It’s not about loyalty. Just about every coach here would jump at an opportunity to get a better gig. That loyalty train apparently is a one way train. We should accept mediocrity to bad and they can adios for a better gig.
I say no to accepting mediocrity to bad long term. That’s being disloyal to the customers. Ya know the ones who actually make it possible for coaches to coach and players to compete.

So let's see...everyone on here in the past was bashing JT for the poor offense. However, JT was employed by Coach Robe so basically it is really Coach Robe fault....the excuse back is.... well JT has a family and so on so this is why Coach Robe did not replace him. LOL...
And his first 2 years we went to a super and hosted a regional...AFTER losing all the talent from 2014...it didn’t look like we were headed for this. We are all looking at this in hindsight. If any of you believe employer/employee relationships don’t weigh in on decisions at any job you are naive. That happens everywhere
No hindsight here, watching games and the stats back it up. You had arguably the best group of pitchers this program has ever seen in 2015-17. While offensive production declined, pitching improved and maintained the postseason run. Once the decline extended far enough, you had 35-21 and no postseason. Continued in 18 and now today.
