Thread: Cajuns' JUCO signees having solid seasons

  1. Default Re: Cajuns' JUCO signees having solid seasons

I know we are way ahead of ourselves, but I think Tony is going to have a great year next year. In looking at what we have and what we lose, I think next year will be a breakout year, specifically because the hitting will continue to improve but our young arms are showing promise and getting better each week this year.

Think about this, here is what we lose at the end of this year.

C Kole McKinnon--Platooning this year, but to be honest if not for injuries he would be behind Monica and Toro.

2B--Hunter Kasuls--Big loss as he is playing very well this year, will need to replace him.

OF--Orynn Veillon--Good player, but not great, questionable defense and feast or famine at the plate.

OF/1B--Daniel Lahare--Solid player, great overall defense both as an infielder and outfielder, but with injury and without really hasn't been hitting at all.

RP--Grant Cox--Decent middle relief, but not something we can not replace. Has had good outings and really bad ones.

P--Gunner Leger--Would be a huge loss, but the reality is he has not pitched much this year and he is solid this year, but is a question mark each day whether he can go or not.

C--Handsome Monica--Very good player, but Toro has shown in limited at bats that he can replace Monica.

The question mark and the only player I see that could be drafted and leave this year is:

OF/DH/1B--Todd Lott--If Lott comes back then I don't think we will have much to replace next year. Granted much of this will have to do with staying healthy. But I like the fact that we are hitting the ball better now than early in the season and all of last season.

Just a heads up, in conference play we are hitting .283 this year, this is the best batting average in conference play we have had since 2014, granted that year we hit .332 in conference play, but look at each year since then.

    2015---.279
    2016---.268
    2017---.267
    2018---.257
    2019---.283

And we are doing that with multiple expected starters not in the lineup or playing out of position.

The fact that Coastal made it to a regional in 14 of those 21 seasons is a testament to the consistency that Gilmore has established in that program and one I wish that we had in this program. No up years, followed by down years, then an up year, followed by a couple down years. Straight up, good baseball and then they progressively got better to the point that Coastal was hosting regionals and a super regional.
Am I happy with the last 4 years. No. Have I had fun doubling my investment sitting in the grandstand the last three years. Occasionally. Do I think it's easier to make a regional consistently in the 15 ranked conference rather than the 8 ranked conference. Yes

Gary Gilmore is a great college baseball coach. Tony Robichaux is a great college baseball coach. What has been consistent for Coastal is Gary Gilmore is the hitting coach and he has had the same highly ranked pitching coach (one of the top 15 in the country), Kevin Schnall, for the last 12 years. Consistency in staff for coaching and recruiting helps maintain a stable program.

He beat Stoney brook 2 out of 3 the same year he went to Houston and won a regional

Sadly the sunbelt baseball is no longer in the top 6/7 conferences anymore even with the addition of Coastal. A lot of that has to do with the decline of our program as well as south al. We have turned into a 1 bid league as well

I agree we're not the multiple bid league we once were. Part of that I attribute to the conference itself, and part to money put into the sport around the country. I think there used to be a top 2 to 4 teams that were VERY good an a number of mediocre to bad teams. I think we now had a couple of BAD teams, a group in the middle, and one or two good teams. That being said, at this time we're still the #9 conference in the country.

Coastal is leading the east with an 8-6 record, and UTA is leading the west at 11-4. Three teams in the west actually have a better conference record than Coastal at this point.

So we played the same 2012 Stony Brook in 2015 and we beat them two out of three? Holy hell. Doc Brown actually did prove time travel.

Can we find any other transitive properties to play this game?

Did the Cajuns play the same LSU teams in regionals that stony brook, coastal and Houston played?

So the same year he beat Stoney was the same year they beat LSU in the SR?
The COACH ROBE PR MACHINE at it's best. LMAO

And your example of Houston is just as bad since it was not the same year that Houston beat LSU in regional to move on to a Super. Yes, we beat Houston that year only to move on and get swept by LSU.

Quit trying to spin things. Robe has never beat LSU in a post season series to advance to the next round where other coaches have.

    It is what it is!

NO, all I was doing was pointing out that Robe has not been able to eliminate LSU in either a Super or Regional. Other coaches at schools that are pretty much on par with us have!

No reason to get Mad and make up excuses. Facts are facts! Maybe one day he can because I hate this Frick sticks in BR.

    In a regional? No.

But we did play at LSU in 2012 (stony brook year) and got shutout.

We did play LSU in 2014 (Houston year). We won in BR that year.

We did play LSU in 2016 (Coastal year) in the Wally pontiff and lost that game.

    I love your research efforts.
