App state and Coastal series aren't terrible as they are in the top 100.

Should we pray for rain for ULM and GState or is it better just to amass as many wins as possible and hopefully a gaudy record helps us?
22-15 record. It's a 60% winning percentage, which is higher than our current OWP average. I'm ok with playing them.

I'm a sports fan, so I enjoy watching the Cajuns win. I doubt rpi ranking will help or hinder when the committee decides where they send us. If I felt rpi would play a factor in getting us a high enough ranking to host, then bring on the rain.

I don't think our rpi ranking will matter when the committee makes their decision. I'm expecting them to send us to Austin, Oxford or Baton Rouge.
If they seed based on the current RPI rankings, Oxford, Auburn or Austin would not be bad places to go. Really just want to avoid refineryville until at least a super regional. They are playing well in what was supposed to be a down-ish year based on what SEC softball fans were prognosticating.

I agree with Baton Rouge for supers. I listed the 3 I did because they are all within the 400 mile radius and they are all in the top 16 of the rpi. Auburn is almost 500 miles from Lafayette so it's unlikely we go there for regionals.

I was just thinking Auburn as it would be matched with Red Stick for a super if the committee used current RPI for seeding. I thought Auburn was closer.

Going to Texas and beating a top 8 seed would be sweet.

I still want us to host although I think it's just a pipe dream in spite of our record. Just hoping something changes in the RPI pileup in front of us or we do something crazy like finish the season with only 4-5 losses and the committee views that very favorably.

If we host, it's as a 15 or 16 seed, which means a match up with #1 or #2 on the road. Even then, 1-1 against the top won't get you a host site when you are this close to the top 16.

I'll take the chances of being put in a regional where the national seed is between #5 (like Texas) and #12 (Alabama and Auburn) so that the super regional pairing is more beneficial for us.

So what ARE they basing seedings on? Standings in the SEC/Big 12/Pac 12?

It depends on what they can use to justify putting P5 teams in.... one year it's record vs top 50, next is RPI, another is bad losses... have to wait until the end of the season and see where the stats point

RPI definitely gets weighed heavy in the seedings but the schedule has "historically" played a part as well. As of now we have two games played against the Top 50 and are 1-1. Just not enough data there to put up against teams in front of us. I think there is only one team in front of us that hasn't played at least a dozen games against teams in the top 50.

Yes, the committee will use rpi rankings to determine the hosts. What I'm saying is that they won't use ours, even if we manage to get into the top 16.

I don't see a whole lot of likelihood that, mathematically, the Cajuns can get into the top 16. Their OWP will be able to improve with games against Southeastern Louisiana, Appalachian State, North Carolina-Greensboro, Louisiana Tech and Coastal Carolina, but it will be devastated by Georgia State and ULM. Even if it does happen, you have to start looking at the specifics of the resume. The only top 50 games the Cajuns are likely to have are Oklahoma, Oregon State (dangerously close to out), Louisiana Tech, Troy, North Carolina-Greensboro and North Texas. The last 4 have much work to do to get into the top 50 and stay there. As it is, this is a very weak resume the Cajuns have, even if they win out and those teams finish in the top 50.

Our continued lack of scoring against lackluster teams will also not help in the eyeball test. We’re winning, but not dominating these lesser teams.

UTA held UCLA to 2 runs, A&M and OK State to 1 each, and held Arkansas to just 4 runs in each game against them, losing 1-4 and winning 7-4. We’re not the only good team to have had scoring held in check by them.

Even when they got swept by Troy, runs given up each game was 2, 7 and 2.

... and when you are talking about #1 seed consideration, it is much more about record vs. the RPI Top 25 and RPI Top 10 (peer group) than record vs. RPI Top 50. The Cajuns have no resume here. So, unless the selection committee does something remarkably different than in years past (not likely), this is a dangerous #2 seed that a host team does not want to see.
