Southeastern beat Jackson State 18-2 last night. Their bats are red hot.

I know it's early in the seaon, but this is a really important game for us.

    I'll be going, anybody else??

They are playing well, but last night they had 18 runs on just 7 hits in 6 at bats. Jackson St gave up 15 walks.

Say what you want aout SLU and who they played, but they did sweep Miss. State in Starkvegas. They whipped our arse last year and looks like they will do it again this year. It is hard to take the ribbing from my cousin who played baseball at SLU.

Me and the little lady will be there. Looking forward to checking out Parker. And everytime we go to SLU, it makes me appreciate the Tigue that much more..

What kind of lineup are you guys looking for tonight? This is what I'd like to see:

1 - CF Kyle Olasin (dude is a spark plug, period)
2 - DH Brian Bowman (OBP has to be through the roof)
    3 - RF Matt Goulas
    4 - 1B Jordan Poirrier
    5 - C Chad Keefer
    6 - LF Alex Fuselier
    7 - SS Greg Fontenot
    8 - 3B Will Long
    9 - 2B Kyle Bostick

I'd like to see Marvel get an AB late in the game, if the situation calls for it.

One thing I am interested to see and I think through the season what might be the difference between the Cajuns and SLU is how they pitch tonight. Their weekend starters appear to be pretty darn good... and evidently last night's pitching was adequate. Tonight they will be throwing their 5th starter, which for many programs is very telling.

My thought is that our pitching will be better than theirs... giving our hitters the opportunity to stay with their hot bats. I'll be there... (after a slight detour at Bass Pro Shops in Denhan Springs for a little fishing tackle).

SLU, like most teams, is trying to figure out their #3/#4/#5 guys. Their #1/#2 starters are set with Tyler Watkins and Brandon Efferson. These guys threw Friday and Saturday at Mississippi State. Ryan Boudreaux was the midweek guy to start the season (#4). But after Stefan Lopez had a very poor Saturday start against Eastern Illinois on opening weekend, he was skipped in the rotation last weekend and only pitched relief in the two midweek games thus far (he threw last night). Ryan Boudreaux should not be available tonight, as he threw significant pitches on Sunday. Tanner Lorenz made his first start last night.

Thus, SLU will need to go with someone who has not yet started in 2010.

So we're in the same boat for tonight with a new pitcher. I'm expecting good things out of Ryland Parker, but kind of disappointed that Mike Cook has fallen this far.

Looking at the box score from last nites Southeastern game. They just swept Miss State, ranked in the top 30 and undefeated and they had under 400 people in attendance for the game.

Scott Prather recently announced that Tyler Watkins would start tonight for SLU. If this is true, I do not agree with this tactic at all. Watkins is their ace and would be throwing on only four days rest, after throwing 7 1/3 innings Friday against Mississippi State (88 pitches). It is too early in the season to be doing that.

Obviously SLU thinks this one is important. Of course, it helps that they have Texas Southern on the schedule this weekend.
