Thread: Kevin Johnson

The first change of staff, be it Marlin or Johnson or whomever, the Brad Boyd crowd. Just like the Louie Cook crowd.

No implications towards Johnson's motives, not sure where that came from other than an assumption, not on my part.

I hear that Johnson will be paid close to $300K to be Hunter's Associate HC. That seems to be motivation enough for him to take the position.

KJ was offered a huge raise to basically have the same position in a better conference. And now, he can recruit in a hotbed of talent in his own backyard.

As much as it’s a bummer to lose him, the man took a better opportunity and ran with it. Best of luck to him,

As per post #43, it seems it was your assumption which is why I asked. I've been critical of Marlin, as you know, and I will presume you are lumping me into this crowd of "bashers" but I have no interest in Boyd for our staff at this time which is why I asked the question.

So exactly what is your knock on Boyd?

I've got zero against Brad, but his path would mirror his father in law. So far that's a questionable decision. Do we want to go down the same path with family members.

A guy with high school experience suddenly goes into college after many years.

I think we have a problem with people being too close to coaches now a good ole boy hire is the last thing we need

While I can see your point...keep in mind we don’t have that baseball palace without those relationships...

And the relationships which Glasco has with the softball developmental leagues have seemed to payoff with recruiting. Not sure if Boyd has quite the contacts Glasco had, but look at the success in SB - is it a possibility with MBB and Boyd?

Well his father in law went straight to a HC position if I’m not mistaken. I know a marlin would never even consider Brad because he holds some I’ll feelings towards him.

But to say a high school HC gets hired by a low major college as an assistant. That is not unheard of.

What I’m saying is Brad and Brodhead would both be late to the collegiate game. Just suggesting caution when hiring people very close to the university.

Is Brad a good assistant coach? Maybe but he’s got very strong views that may clash with his boss. An assistant needs to accept he’s not in charge.

I’m watching a Baylor coach that LTUR wasn’t willing to accept as a favorite daughter so sometimes the closeness should not matter.

By the way those women look like they come from a different planet than ours. Not nearly so much in MBB.

Not only is it not unheard of, it's the norm.

Mike Krzyzewski began his collegiate basketball coaching career as an assistant to Bobby Knight.
