Thread: Can someone splain me what happened to our once-poud baseball program?

As for Lockridge, you admitted being a personal friend of the family earlier in this thread, amongst other comments. I've heard many of the same things you have posted about other players, and for the record I'm not certain of what is accurate or extreme exaggerations from disgruntled player, and or parents. In any case, I look up and I see that Cantrelle is leading the team in batting average and has won more games with his bat than any other player in the lineup thus far in the season. So in spite of your suggestions that he has been given more opportunity than others to succeed, it's no surprise to me he has the best stats on the team and has been the best damn player of the team this season. I'm my book he has earned it.

Now do I think there aren't problems in the program? I'm not naive enough to believe some players haven't received better opportunities than others. It happens in most programs, if it did not Lockridge would still be at LSU. And that is my point to you, other programs do the same things including the one down the road, but some people want to kick Rob in the nuts because he has done the same thing at times. But people that support those same athletes don't ever bring up those complaints about that program.

Bottom line, we have problems in our program. There is no doubt that it falls on the man running this program and his decisions. He needs to fix it or the fans will stop supporting him. But in all the things we've seen and complained about that are concerns, Hayden Cantrelle is the least of my concern. At some point performance matters and BS walks.
For the record, I know the parents of many players on the team and if Cantrelle would have been afforded the opportunities afforded to others, he would be sporting a 180 BA, 6 errors and less than half the playing time.

I understand. Although I still don't think Cantrelle sees the field that often on that 2014 team, I would agree he would have to have been an outfielder at least.

Thank you babysitter. I was just trying to make a point that I think of the players we have today the only ones that I think would have had a chance to start were

Gunner (when healthy would have been a weekend starter)
Hayden (not sure where he would have fit in, but somebody including himself would have had to play out of position)
Todd Lott (probably a platoon or part time player)

Outside of that, I see no one on this team that would have had a chance.

I am not a doom and gloomer like most on this site, I see some positives that I can be excited about for the 2nd half of the year.

Kasuls coming back and is playing well. We really need him healthy
Cantrelle is carrying the team offensively
    Lott is playing well
Toro when healthy (we need him back desperately)
Breaux I like what Breaux is doing and think he is going to only get better
Spears we need to give him more playing time
Lahare will come back, and I know he is struggling, but he will hit better tahn .164

    Pitching wise:

Gunner is pitching well even though he is not putting up the innings, he will help in relief and starting the rest of the season

Burk has picked it up as of late

    Leaumont is pitchig well

Young has had some good outings

We need to see more out of Cox/Horton/Batty/Perrin/Armstrong/Cook, but all have had some good outings.

The last part of your post is part of the problem as to why we are where we are.

And on the Cape, don't fool yourself, the college coaches decide who gets invited."

Whatever I'm smoking, it seems to work better than your medication.

So how many chances should YOUR boy get? Since he's been inserted into the starting lineup, he's 0-25.

I don’t have a boy. Now you listening to T. Pile on, it’s ok. There are several players this year and last who have not received fair opportunities to produce. At least some of them should. Maybe we would have a team of producers rather than just one on a pedestal. It takes a team to win. Y’all have at it.

Who should receive opportunities over others? Just curious. Not trying to argue your point on THAT one. Just trying to see where you are going with this.

If you go back and read through his post he has mentioned Lockridge, Hannie and several others. But let's be honest because he hasn't been, it all began with Lockridge and his relationship with the family. I listened at first, but than he piled on Cantrelle in the thread about the starting lineup. I'm willing to give Lockridge some more time, but I'm not listening to people ____ on the best player on the team and while others are getting it done.

Why that ability and foot speed doesnt translate to range across the middle is a mystery.

From the play that I have seen I haven't seen that yet from Cantrelle. No doubt a good athlete but he isnt on BT level.
