You keep focusing on one unnamed person and penning my analysis on that person and who ever said anything about anyone playing or not playing at the COD? It was you.
No one has said a thing about Lockrodge and the COD and he is only one of about twelve that have received the revolving door treatment of development by this coaching staff the past two years. One was Lott last year. That revolving door treatment has failed them miserably. Most from last year are no longer here, some good players got the door before the season even started and we are where we are today.
My point was that if more players were given the pedestal treatment that Cantrelle has received, maybe, just maybe we would have more productive players contributing on this team. I said further that it is not fair to judge the development of others in comparison to Cantrelle because virtually NONE of the others have been given even remotely like opportunities to produce.
Not ONCE have I said anything should be taken away from Cantrelle for using ALL of the opportunities that he has been given to get where he got last year and where he is now this year. In fact I admire him for working through the two slumps and performing the way he did in the second half of last year and has of late this year.
Holy ____.....Please reread, I never said they would have been benched. I said that there would have been a place on the field for one of them out of position, probably Hayden. He would have been at 1st/3rd/DH or outfield, but they would have found a place for him. The question was who of this team would have started on the 2014 team. I said Hayden and I stand behind that, but in might not have been as a middle infielder. Christ almighty it is hard to get you guys to read all the way through.
Your post suggest he was given something he hasn't earned. I told you the Patch on his shoulder suggest otherwise. As for Lockridge, you admitted being a personal friend of the family earlier in this thread, amongst other comments. I've heard many of the same things you have posted about other players, and for the record I'm not certain of what is accurate or extreme exaggerations from disgruntled player, and or parents. In any case, I look up and I see that Cantrelle is leading the team in batting average and has won more games with his bat than any other player in the lineup thus far in the season. So in spite of your suggestions that he has been given more opportunity than others to succeed, it's no surprise to me he has the best stats on the team and has been the best damn player of the team this season. I'm my book he has earned it.
Now do I think there aren't problems in the program? I'm not naive enough to believe some players haven't received better opportunities than others. It happens in most programs, if it did not Lockridge would still be at LSU. And that is my point to you, other programs do the same things including the one down the road, but some people want to kick Rob in the nuts because he has done the same thing at times. But people that support those same athletes don't ever bring up those complaints about that program.
Bottom line, we have problems in our program. There is no doubt that it falls on the man running this program and his decisions. He needs to fix it or the fans will stop supporting him. But in all the things we've seen and complained about that are concerns, Hayden Cantrelle is the least of my concern. At some point performance matters and BS walks.
I hear ya RaginDave. I read your original post again and at first it looked like you suggested Conrad or Trahan would have to play out of position as you said "one of those guys" but you meant to include Cantrelle in that mix. I understand. Although I still don't think Cantrelle sees the field that often on that 2014 team, I would agree he would have to have been an outfielder at least.
