What isn't discussed are the nuanced differences in the past 3 seasons, intelligently discussed here. It's all injuries.

Use stats to determine lineup.
Last year jay was one of the people who said Robe hadn’t missed a regional three years in a row. We’re plowing new rows unless they can win the tournament.
What was unreasonable expectations of getting to a regional this year since it fit the Robe history.
I do agree that having so many injuries hurt their chances for additional wins. Still ya can’t ignore the 1/7.
2013-2016 was a heck of a run, but we also invested millions of dollars to continue that growth with a brand new stadium and increased ticket prices with nothing to really show for it. We also grew the fan base during that time frame. I seriously doubt anyone is realistically expecting a 58-win season anytime soon, but a legitimate shot at a regional appearance should be the MINIMUM of expectations for this program. And it looks like we might be heading to a third straight season without one. Hopefully, I’m wrong come early June.
As for injuries, we were healthy when we started 1-7. The injuries just make it more difficult to get to .500 at this rate. It shouldn’t be used as a scapegoat to cover for the missing links that was already there to begin with. I heard the same thing with basketball when MM went down. Instead of just admitting that the team lacked depth overall, MM getting hurt was the reason why the season was a wash.
So I don’t mind saying that injuries can hurt a season because they do. But, using it the other way around as a way to cover the original shortcomings isn’t ok either.
Agreed. Perfectly reasonable to expect a sharp, nimble program to leverage that recent success and the new ballpark into a new "baseline" of performance where regionals are at least an every other year thing.
We are now back to the 2010 level of performance, before the Degs era and the new ballpark.
Jay went on to say Lahare is coming back, Toro is coming back, Kasuls will play 2B, Gunner is coming out the bullpen, Jack Burk and Grant Cox are back on track. So, IF the pitching staff can be consistently good, LF is solidified,.....we will win more games in the 2nd half.
