For the record, I never said he should sit, but that others performances should not be judged against his because his opportunities were much different than pretty much every other player on this team (except for maybe Monica)Originally Posted by ManAboutTown

Last year Lott was in the revolving door. He was benched after each session of a couple less than par at bats. We almost lost him. So were a long line of other players given short strings in the outfield, first and DH. Most of them are gone. We lost them.
Now this year, Lott has gotten a similar opportunity to stay in the lineup and look where he is. Players just will not perform in the revolving door atmosphere where the pine is sniffing your butt if the door hits you in the azzz
Again, nothing against Cantrelle for taking the opportunities given to him and in time, each year, coming out of his slump. To compare him with those not provided that opportunity is just idiotic.
This year, Dupuy was given so short a leash it was almost none at all.
Hannie has been given so short a leash it was almost none at all.
Spears has been given such a short leash, it was almost none at all.
Frank may be on the same path.
We 2 and 0. Let’s table it til we lose again.
With the exception of Spears, what does Hannie, Frank and Dupuy have in common? They are all freshmen. Cantrelle was given more opportunity to get his bat going because he hit as a true freshman. You don't sit your starting QB in football because he gets off to a bad start after playing well the previous season. You don't bench your starting PG if he is struggles shooting the ball after playing well the previous season. It's just blanket stupidity to compare your starting SS and best player on the team to freshmen that have not done anything yet in the program.
Spinning stupidity, WOW. First of all, this year it was not just his bat, his defense was also putrid. Spin - please find where I take the position that coaching decisions with Cantrelle were NOT the right decision - you can’t.
How hard is it for you to understand that my observation/point has been that if the coaching staff in the past couple of years had chosen and given others better opportunities rather than whole staffing the the revolving door philosophy of playing time it may have proven to be productive wth more than just one player. Lott for example this year unequivocally proves my point.
Then you say that the other three I mentioned are freshmen so they should not be allowed a better opportunity to developed and show what they can do because of THAT mere fact. Well my friend, you are again blinded by the light, and if you didn’t know, Cantrelle was a FRESHMAN last year. So again, because you are so blinded and butt hurt about the chosen ones issues being in the mix for the discussion you scream red hearing spin points.
Basically YOU (not me) spun this to be a knock on the chosen one which it has never been and this very post proves that stupidity. Open your eyes and try to think a little and you will understand. But no, because my analysis necessarily points out that the chosen one sucked for almost 1/3rd of each of two seasons ( this one BOTH on offense and defense) and for basically the regular season in the COD this past summer, it is tabooo.
Read my posts. I never said he should sit. I made it unequivocally clear that he has done what it takes to get his act in order with the opportunities afforded him and that the good Cantrelle is a very good player. I pull very hard for him every night. I also pull very hard for EVERY other player on our team and most importantly for the team. You on the other hand are obviously more worried about the one player. So have at it.
i have no dog in this fight, but is it just possible that the staff saw something in practice that was different than others and that is why Hayden got a longer leash. I have coached basketball, tennis and softball for many years with kids from 6-18. what I can tell you is many times I have kids that excel in practice and it does not translate to game time performance and in other cases I have kids who are game day stars but struggle in practice. Could it be that Hayden was one of these kids and that is why the leash is longer on him than other guys that have similar numbers. A guy who struggles in practice and in games probably in just not that good, but a kid that shows how good he is in practice but struggles in games probably has the talent, just it takes a little longer for he/she to do it on the big stage.
Just a thought
Could it be possible that there is a little truth to both?
