Really? I didn’t just type up coaches names and arbitrarily throw salaries next to them. Come on man, the reality is Big Fish sucks. We over pay for mediocre results.

I wish we’d pay $750k and hire an energetic younger coach who can raise money and win the right way. A personality like hudspeth with a better xo’s grasp of basketball.

Instead we pay $550k for Mr Rogers with more excuses than CNN.

Hunter was quoted several times in the couple of weeks prior to the conference tournament and said the same thing. It was all about three days in March. Said he wasn't pushing his team too hard and basically said he didn't care if they won the regular season title.

Being the best coach in the Sun Belt doesn't take much. Like Marlin, Hunter schedules the little sisters of the poor for non conference home games; unlike Marlin he wins the occasional road game against a decent power conference team.

I have my doubts about how well he can do at Tulane. I don't think he can get the guys he usually gets as transfers into school there; and I am not sure he can out-coach the better coaches in the AAC.

I am in agreement. I'm going to be interested to see how he tries to build the program there. The transfer route is very difficult because of credit transferring. Hunter, regardless of what anyone thinks about him, is charismatic. He'll attract some talent there. But that league is a very tough nut to crack and he's inheriting a program that just went 0-18.

His two best teams were built on transfers. Most of the talent he's had in the last few years has been home grown kids from Georgia. They've won in the Sun belt, but we will never confuse the recent teams with what he had when he had Harrow, Hunter, et. al.

I’m pretty sure my statement was in support of the Big Fish philology of only playing for tournament championships. Unfortunately he rarely delivers and would jump all over any pay to play tournament. Ultimately I don’t care what Hunter does except as it might have a direct impact on Louisiana. I’m doubting the Big Fish can recruit well against Hunter. Luckily he’s looking for a lot better talent than Marlin.

I think both are equally important. No one will ever call a season where we make it to the NCAA tournament a failure, regardless of how the team does during the regular season.

But I also believe a better barometer of the program is the regular season. If you go out and win 27 games and win your regular season championship by four games, you've had a helluva year.

But judging by some of the debates I've had on this board, there are several who believe losing in the league semifinals without two key figures on your team negates anything you did during a 31 game regular season.

I'll take it a step farther. Jessie's 2004 team won the west and was the #1 seed. But there were divisions and they didn't award a regular season title. We tied for the title in 2000 with South Alabama and won the tournament.

But Marlin's 2018 title was the first outright regular season title since we joined the Sun Belt. That's right. It had not been done in 27 seasons. It also never happened in the American South. You have to go back to Paschal's team that won the Southland the final year we were in the league to get the last outright regular season championship and that was 35 years ago.

And most on this board ignore that fact.

NCAA appearances make money no one cares about regular season titles. Hudspeth is a prime example nobody mentions he had only 1 shared sunbelt championship in the first 4 years the same as Bustle
