I wouldn't have as many issues with the extensions if I knew the university had established clear levels of expectations with the program moving forward. "Coach, here are our lists of outcomes and accomplishments we want met and expect you to meet if you are the coach at Louisiana". Keep everybody on the same page so coach knows what is expected and if those success levels aren't met, then we are willing to pull the plug. I'm just not that confident that our administration has that mindset.

I'd like goals set too. But how do you account for variables. Injuries, academics, arrests, family issues, dead rabbit...all come into play. Some of that would fall under recruiting good citizens, some just happen.

I think they do, it's just none of our business...it's the AD's responsibility to monitor game to game, season to season progress. Don't need Joe Fan waiting to go "AHA! Got ya" because the AD didn't hire his bud and the coach missed a win goal because of a bus crash.

Several posters have indicated Marlin is the highest or second highest paid coach in the sunbelt. Can someone post a link to where this data is? I have not seen any recent list with the sunbelt basketball coaches salaries. If no data available, what data are these posters using to make to come to this conclusion?

How does any program account for them?

Bryce Drew was just fired. He brought Vandy to the dance in 2017.
Billy Kennedy is gone. Brought A&M to the dance in 2016 and 2018.
Steve Alford is done. Brought UCLA to the dance in 2013,14,15,17 and 2018.

These are variables that are part of everyday life, much less collegiate sports. Are these things supposed to just wipe the slate clean every time something happens in an unfortunate season? Seriously.

Do we know that this was not done? I thought Maggard had very clear goals for every coach: dominate conference, succesful post season runs and run a clean program.

I don't know. Do we? Has Maggard ever released these requirements publicly? Assuming he has these same standards, they are not being met in a couple of different ways and what has been made public is his approval of Marlin's job thus far which would contradict his own standards. There is no way you could make a case for dominating conference and postseason runs.

That’s what I’m saying, But Maggard isn’t about to put himself in a position to be micromanage by fans and make it public where fans can count the wins and losses towards failure.

Again, none of our business on the exact numbers and such. There’s nothing wrong expecting success. If that’s not good enough, hate away on our coaches.
