I played both positions at the college level and semi pro ball so yes i know...Have you ever saw a baseball or softball game or even played yourself? Third is the hot corner and not every one can play that positions. In softball girls are playing 3rd 40 ft from the plate while the shortstop is 100 ft away. When your facing a batter like Mark McGwire trust me you would rather be at short than 3rd. How many short stops field bunts? Dude you are clueless.

So you really think playing SS is harder than being a catcher? LOL

I don't need to ask anyone. I know firsthand...

How many players do you know have moved from their primary position to play shortstop? How many? I'm waiting. I also know first hand. Division 1 level first hand. You take 99% of shortstops, and they can play any position the field. You take a 3rd baseman off of 3rd, and he can play, where? 1st base? 3rd base is not that hard. I've played it. I've coached it. I'm seriously over here laughing at your keyboard coach/player extraordinaire comment. Isn't everyone on here hiding behind the computer screen? I can't find any Joe Leblancs who played college baseball, so I'm curious as to how you know firsthand.

    Field bunts? LMAO.

    I sir, am not clueless.

Take any shortstop in the big leagues and put him at 3rd. Bet he succeeds. Take any 3rd baseman and put him at shortstop. I'm guessing 10-15% will succeed.

Shortstops need to cover more ground, have a stronger arm, sees way more action, must have better hands and feet.

3rd basemen need to be quick side to side. Oh, and be able to field bunts.

Third Base: Third base, also known as the ‘Hot Corner,’ is a tough position to play defensively. The margin of error is small when a third baseman has to make the longest infield throw to nail a runner at first base. And, if that wasn’t enough pressure, third basemen are also responsible for bunts down the third baseline. If you don’t have a quick reaction time, great reflexes, or a monster arm, then cross third base off your list of positions to play.

I get my knowledge of the position from playing. Not from copy and paste

What exactly has Cantrelle done? And it wasn’t an outing. It was several and people were really patient with him not hitting for half the damn season last year because he was making up for it at SS. This year he wasn’t hitting AND booting balls, that’s what brought up the discussion, don’t compare him to gunner leger until he puts a skin on the wall much less the skins gunner has hanging. I was for giving someone else a shot, it wasnt Lockeridge though

Thank you, when will people just believe what they are seeing. We aren’t very good. It’s really simple.

That why your screen name is ConfusedFan, you are confused. No need to keep debating this with someone who doesn't know any better, for the record I have played both positions in college and semi-pro ball. My daughter and niece have both played 3rd D1 college softball, 3rd is a harder position in baseball or softball. And yes Catcher is the hardest position

Confusedfan is because I’m a fan of UL, but confused on some of the decisions made. Minor league ball/semi-pro.l? Or semi-pro independent league? Just curious. And softball third base is much different than baseball third base. Won’t even get into that debate, as this is a baseball post we are commenting on. But I guess we will have to agree to disagree because after playing the game until I was 22, you will never convince me that 3rd base is harder.
