The kid was struggling bad, probably between his ears mostly, having him watch a midweek isn’t putting him on the pine and moving on. It’s a game and you want to see if you missed on dupuy. Hey let’s go into next year having no idea what he can do, that sounds better. Heaven forbid Cantrelle get hurt. It’s not like we are in the hunt for an at large. Doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results.

Didn't say Lott started every game. Just said he played every game. I'm just going off of what I see on the website. If the coaches had any confidence in Dupuy, don't you think they would have given him a shot at 3rd base? I feel like it's starting to be like football where everyone loves the backup QB. What is one game of him starting going to do to get him ready for next year? He's already played 2nd base for three games (started 2). And was pinch hit for in the two games he started. Isn't the fall the time to "see what he can do?"

One game of him starting wouldn’t hurt anymore than one game of Hayden not, it’s just one game. For the record it wasn’t just Hayden, after uno loss I suggested running out Spears, dupuy, lochridge, frank and Wiley...what were they gonna do? Lose...worst case win? Shake ___ up after an ___ whippin

Crazy has been right this entire thread...
it’s easy to sit back and say the decision to keep him in the line up was correct now.. He needed to sit, period.

I won’t post names here because some of the players I’m going to mention are beloved names.. But do you really believe that? For some, yes, working your way into the lineup is a real thing. But you’d be surprised how many “names” absolutely DOGGED it in practice over the years here. Make no mistake, there is always a group of chosen players for this ball club. Just like you guys complain about Robe’s loyalty to coaches, there is as much loyalty (in some cases) to players and parents too.

Cantrelle is human just like anyone else. He, in my opinion, fell in love with himself a little bit. It would be hard not to, when people around the program are talking about you as a consensus All American candidate.

Truth of the matter: He needed to sit.
Also true: He is still our best PROVEN SS.
Also true: Nothing would be hurt had he sat and let someone behind him take some PT.

As I’ve said plenty of times, there is just something not right with the program right now. Things like this send messages to players and teammates. Since our new hitting coaches have come on board, I’ve heard several disgruntled players talk about these very situations. And I’m not talking bench warmers.

What if all he needed was to work his way out of the slump. Sitting on the bench and thinking about it may not have been the best. He stayed in the lineup and is now the hottest hitter we have. Seems like what they did worked. If everyone is so dead set on Dupuy playing, put him at 3rd, 1st, or left field and see what he can do. Wouldn't be the first time someone has played out of position. Heck, we don't even have a true first baseman on the team.

This completely and unequivocally misses the point.

Once again, you are missing the point.
Anyone can play the “what if” game. What if he’d have been benched for a couple midweek games and came out of the slump 3 weeks ago? How many more wins do we have?

When your standard is “Produce to Play”, that standard needs to apply to everyone. When it doesn’t, you create problems. That is the larger issue, aside from his miserable start.

What point? I'm curious. I dislike his playing just as much as anyone, but him staying in the lineup worked.

This team is 10-12. Almost half the year is gone. I wouldn’t describe much of anything as “working”.

He could NOT be "out of the slump" and still be booting balls TO THIS DATE, and would be in the lineup every day. Like I was last year when he exited the slump, I am elated that it has finally happened this year and hope that the Cantrelle we are seeing now is the one that we see for the rest of the season. Further I hope it does not take him half a season to do the same next year LIKE IT HAS THIS YEAR AND LAST.

You could say the same if you never take him out and he started hitting in May...oh look it worked. We are 10-12...nothing worked
