We talk about underachieving in basketball and baseball, but what about golf? Our record has been pretty dismal for a number of years now. Sliman has been coach since 2008. I checked statistics and found the following:
2018-19 - Best finish is 2nd at LSU, but lost to first place by 28 strokes. Tournament finishes this year: 10th of 15, 11th of 16, 8th of 12,; 2nd of 14; 9th of 20; 7th of 15; 11th of 14; 13th of 15; and 11th of 15 in the Louisiana Classics.
Best finishes in Louisiana Classics tournament: 11th - 17-18; 5th 16-17; 8th 15-16; 3rd 14-13; 6th 2011; 10th 2012.
Best finishes in Conference Championship: 7th - 17-18; 10th - 16-17; 9th 15-16; 9th 14-15; 4th 13-14; 7th 12-13.
Conference Championships - 2007 & 1997 - only 2 times in 22 years
Regional appearances - 2012 last time; 2007, 2001. From 1989 - 97, we went every year. Not much since 1997, only 3 times in 22 years.
All Americans - 2001 - Richard Ainsley - HM; 1992 Trey Coker - 3rd team; 1990 Craig Perks - 3rd team; 1989 - Mike Heinen - 3rd team.
