Jefferson Street Pub owner keeps feet in two different worlds

LOUISIANA La. — Tim McCoy is a man who will admit that he has the best of both worlds.

A marketing instructor for the University of Louisiana, McCoy’s business education has always centered on the bar industry, and now, he is the owner of one of the most hi-tech clubs in downtown Lafayette.

“It really is like a dream come true, and I know a lot of people say things like that, but for me, it’s the truth,” McCoy said in the Jefferson Street Pub, which used to be known as The Bank.

McCoy said that he began his experiences in the bar business while in graduate school and has worked his way up from being behind the bar to sitting in the owner’s chair.

“It’s given me a good feel to have worked in so many different positions,” he said. “This is my first venture by myself, but I feel I already know so much about the business because I started — literally — at the bottom and worked my way up.”

With a laugh, he said that his students are also learning a lot about his business.
