Not necessarily Mike. See my comments about the Alabama situation a couple years back. Saban decided the championship was worth the red shirt. We’re talking a half game if my memory is accurate.

Again see Alabama title game 2017. Saban decided to put in the freshman killing his red shirt.
I’m not saying anyone is currently better. I’m saying they’d have to be heard and shoulders better to unseat Levi, not marginally better.
I agree. And why would they. I seriously doubt that anyone one on the current roster would have produced a better record (or even similar record) for the Cajuns this year other than Levi. And I don't see anyone else unseating Levi next year unless Napier signs the next coming of Payton Manning, Joe Burrows or Tua! I was also skeptical of Levi at the start of the season, but I can no longer deny what my eyes are seeing and the actual win loss totals for the Cajuns. I think Napier has already proved in his short time here that the best players will see action. And sense Levi is the starting QB, he is apparently the unquestionable best QB currently on the roster. I am also confident that this staff is already grooming the next potential QB, but apparently that person has not yet surpassed Levi in their ability to lead the Cajuns.
These Levi Lewis discussions are baffling. Since I have been following UL 40 years ago they have had a handful of good QBs. Other than Delhomme, none would be considered excellent passers and all had major limitations in their skill set. Most of our successful QBs were a big part of the run game and except for Mitchell all got hurt at some point in their careers. This year we lost the first game because of turnovers (two his fault) and the second game because we got whipped upfront.
Bottom line, Lewis is not holding this team back. He is a big part of their success. While a few here continue to poke holes in his game he will most likely go down as one of the best QBs this school has ever had.
I would have said, "most successful".
"Best" is a judgement call. You are asking for further hole picking when you use that word.
How about all of us just drop this. It is pointless to discuss this right now. Our alma mater is gunning for a national ranking. Let's just enjoy this ride fellas.
The redshirt thing isnt a true limitation anyway with the 4 game rule.
