I think his thoughts are more of the lines that many people were abandoning the basketball program for being above average, yet we are basically tied for third to last in the entire sunbelt yet there is not the same outrage. I think we all would aspire to be first in all sports but that's not always the easiest thing to do.
Here's a question that all of us should be wondering:
Does JT still influence our batters or does that now tie directly to Wells?
If Wells exclusively coaches the batters, then I will say that it will take some time to learn the new approach. But if JT is still influencing the batters, then we are back to where we were before Wells arrived.
Basketball is average at best. Marlin has brought the fanbase to a state of apathy. Not only has apathy not set in (yet) for baseball, the ability to achieve elite status is much more attainable than that in basketball. I think those two points are why there is a difference in attitude toward baseball vs basketball. JMO.
He's still on staff. If he's not influencing hitters, then we need to call in the Bobs. Now the fact that he is still on staff is another issue. Don't really need to rehash that part.
One other question: Do other programs have associate head coaches that aren't official coaches in the dugout?
In the last 5 years as whole we have averaged a 3.8th place finish, out of 12 I would sat that's above average. To me 1 through 4 is above average, 5 through 8 is average and 9 through 12 would be below average but I understand the if your not first your last mentality of some as well.
