I do agree the backup plan was a roster filler only. That guy may never play for the cajuns.

Once again your assumption is not correct. His first choice is Basketball.

It wasn't like if we didn't recruit other good players because we were shooting for Brown.
Only way we have ever got a big since Marlin has been here is by transfer.

I agree as I stated it earlier and he deserves much criticism for that reason alone. Bottom line is that we need a lot of talent and we will have scholarships available for not only bigs but a kid like Cook. My main point in initially mentioning him is exactly this. He will be one of the top players in the state and I have no idea if we are even considering recruiting him. I didn't see one cajun coach at the Sunkist when we had Walker, Riverside, Sophie B Wright etc.. playing in Lafayette.

    Bryce Washington disagrees with you.

Marlin was as at the tournament for at least the first round.

Thats news to me. I was there for the entire first two days and never saw anybody from his staff, including him and I can say I certainly did not see any of them watching Cook.

His size will be improved through workouts and the nutrition program but we see good basketball players excel even with a slimmer build all the time.

Mike, I know you have access to the coaches and I'd like for you to ask them a question. One thing I've been critical of coach Marlin for in the past is lack of recruiting, particularly when it comes to instate guys and guys that can provide good depth. Can you ask coach if he is actively recruiting Jalen Cook from Walker? I mentioned to you that I had seen him at the Sunkist and the kid was absolutely a stud. He's a junior and will be one of the top recruits in the state next year. He already is now. If the staff is recruiting him, do they have any impressions of what they feel about him? He is the type of scoring guard we could use. He is smaller (around 6 foot tall) than many big time college guards so he may not get big offers but I saw him drop 43 against Riverside and he probably had 30 in the first half.
Rebounders Meetings are over for the year so I don't know if I will see any coaches anytime soon. If I happen to run into any I will try to remember to ask your question. As Express said, they may not be able to answer directly about the guy in question. I could ask if they are looking at any guards for 2020 from the New Orleans area. I do know they had a 2020 guard from North Louisiana in for a visit for the ULM game. Not sure of the details but I was told some SEC schools are looking at this North Louisiana guy.

Josten Crow is a relatively young coach in his third year on staff. Played for Coach Marlin at Sam Houston and was a grad assistant here after that. Josten also played successfully in Europe for a few seasons before coming back here. Josten was the lead guy during the game Coach Marlin missed due to his wife's illness. I would think he would relate OK to today's youngsters. Note our main guy in getting both Kobe Julien and Mylik Wilson was veteran assistant Kevin Johnson.

Wrong-Lafayette signed in the November early signing period. Brown did not sign until April.

We are looking at some JC inside guys to bring in during the April signing period. Obviously with our scholarship situation, we probably only take one.
