For those who wonder why they don't see college coaches much at high school games, linked is an interesting article about how college coaches recruit.

Many people that have that kind of drive face the same problems. I have seen small stories where he has his daughters in the dugout during games to spend time, though. If you don't have an understanding wife, coaching college athletics is a very tough career to maintain a marriage. Especially if you intend to be a good coach. For most coaches, the giant salaries are not available to offset not being there.
Recruiting changed forever when scout teams got big. High school games conflict with college season. Summer and fall scout team rosters are usually all college level talent. There might be a few guys reaching for the bottom rung, but the depth of talent dwarfs any high school game.
BUT, if there is a D1 catcher down the street, you get over there and scout his ___.
Also, my understanding is there are currently only three coaches who can recruit off campus, and those are Tony, Wells, and JT.
