GEAUX CAJUNS
I think most people here give Robe a little more leverage than most because he's earned it. That doesn't mean this start is warranted for excuses, but I'm willing to give him more of a chance to turn things around than other coaches here.
When you have a coach that's able to give you consistent top 25 rankings and regional appearances, you give yourself a little more room to make corrections. Now, if things don't change soon enough; then yes. I'm willing to admit that the seat will start to warm up.
I think Robe will cobble together some sort of bullpen and try to grow up the new kids. First 20 games might be ugly like last year, but like last year, the 2nd half will be better.
At my business, I always hire 1 or 2 students from UL to work as interns (typically ages 18-21). I interview them and always try to hire the best available. I get along fine with these interns, but besides work tasks I am pretty out of touch with most things regarding these interns (their slang, work ethic, mindset, social media, Fortnite, etc.).
I couldn't imagine trying to lead a group 27 student interns and my job/business depending on their performance. I think it would be an extremely trying task.
...and that is why I appreciate college coaches and not very quick to call for one to be fired. I do have expectations, but most often willing to give coaches the benefit of the doubt.
Ok, maybe not as consistent as softball, but baseball has been consistently ranked since 2013 up until the beginning of last season (one 2018 preseason poll had us at #18?). While we haven't been u to par with our success to begin the year, it doesn't mean it's time to throw in the towel quite yet.
