    5.08 team ERA
    .951 fielding %
    .258 batting average

If all three numbers do not improve, this will be a long season.

It's pretty sad that .258 is an improvement from 2018.

About .100 higher than last year after two weeks. The problem is we don't have the offense to overcome a 5 plus ERA pitching staff. That is the 100-200 RPI zone.

HUGE bonus reason to bítch: the Southland team who swept us is coached by our former assistant. An assistant who apparently was the reason for a lot (if not all) of our success over the last decade.

Had Batty or Stone closed out game 1 for a win, Veillon never goes to the mound and we don't get swept. The season is currently still a mess, but the torches and pitchforks would have remained in the barn.

Had Veillon closed out the game for the win, Tony is f'n genius and we don't get swept. Thanks Tony.
The Veillon thing was just a disaster. I wish Tony would have saved that experiment for when we were playing a team that wasn't as good. I'm no coach, though. The Bearcats are a historically a good club. Take the conference affiliation out of it.

The season is not over. We just have some glaring issues that can be fixed. The losses and the way we lost has been tough to watch and I'm sure it's doubly defeating for the players. They work for this stuff.

Just start winning some games and slowly climb out of the cellar. They are much better than 1-6. Just need to play like it.

Very perceptive posts Raginscotsman and GreatestStory. There is no way to spin the Veillon thing. It was a long odds bet that crapped out.

Too bad some don’t think it should be questioned...

Haven't seen anyone say Coach Rob should not be questioned for any of his decisions. Sounds like hyperbole......

You can question his decisions but at the end of the day there are not many coaches in college baseball I would trust more when it comes to putting together a successful pitching staff. Robe has quite an impressive resume in this respect. If you listen to his preseason discussions it’s obvious that this staff has numerous question marks and is a work in progress. Its not going to be a seamless process but I have faith he knows what he’s doing. Surprised how quick some of you are to doubt him. Have the last couple seaons really been that bad?

You might want to read through this thread and see exactly who has been questioning all of his decisions and if the modern game has passed him by. If you had done so, you would not be addressing me with your post.

Now you asked a valid question, "Have the last couple of seasons really been that bad?" In comparison to what standard? If you are comparing the standard that was set while Coach Deggs was a member of his staff with the past three seasons of not making a regional, then yes it has been bad. Coach Robichaux has said it is not the standard he set for this program and built a quality stadium to. That is the reason he made the changes in his staff.

......I once heard Robe refer to a guy that was a pitcher that “Fell in love with aluminum” and played a regular position but got drafted as a pitcher....somebody know? I don’t!

So far two seasons. Granted we’ve wasted some of our best pitching ever on teams that were challenged in the batters box, but pitching and defense carried those teams.

This may be the biggest one for me. Gunner Wyatt and hogan (and probably others I’m forgetting) were wasted in my opinion. This is no knock on them. They are great pitchers but all will/have miss out on big money because had we had a pulse at the plate, they would have had a national stage to showcase on.
