Sure, but at least Rob owned it in front of me and several other supporters. He also finally made changes to his staff which allowed them to sign a top 40 class in November. Their recruiting the past few seasons between the Leger, Marks and Harris class and this class just signed has been mediocre at best. Even with this team, I don't see great talent. Lott and Cantrelle are the highest recruited position athletes and both are not playing to that level.
You say we shouldn't have to wait for a turnaround, I can understand that position giving his past. The book on Coach Rob and Coach Marlin are that they loyal to the fault when it comes to their staff's. I'm still waiting for Coach Marlin to make changes.
On paper basketball recruiting has improved recently. Next season they will have a guy who was in the top three in the state for four straight years. Those include Johnson in 16, Russell in 17, Julien in 18, and Wilson in 19. So far Russell is the only one we have seen and he has been inconsistent which is somewhat due to injury. Now all of this is on paper and none of us know if they can live up to their billing or how well they will play together. Baseball also seems to have improved recruiting if you go by the rankings of people signed in early recruiting.
I don’t think we should call our players out by name, and even be somewhat gentle as a group. Marlin and staff told every single player on scholarship that they’re Div one players who can be successful. We’re not privy to the level he told them they could help. Maybe some a team star, supporter, and some a conference all star.
Any player doing his best to follow the coaches practice, and game plan can’t be blamed period.
