Me and the two boys attended. Crowd was good. Saw Marquetti walking to the locker room after the game....what might’ve been.
Good game. They didn't rush the 3's, shot them in transition, Wesley and Stroman penetrated a lot and controlled the game. Gant was Gant, always bringing it. Miller hustled and played controlled. It looks like the coach has them under control. They fought in a close game and won it on free throws in the end. It was a good game.
Warhawks never got within a basket in the last couple of minutes. A bad turnover allowed them a chance to get within a basket but they misfired. Couple of times the Cajuns got the lead to 13 but they were unable to separate more. Warhawks did make Cajuns work the entire game. Key to me was Stroman taking control with drives to basket in second half after Gant had to sit with foul trouble. Defensively we struggled with our rim protector out but were able to score enough to maintain some measure of control. After the game was tied at 9 about 6 minutes into the game, the Cajuns got a couple of baskets and never lost the lead again. Overall a good performance by the guys.
Mike, the game was as close as (5pts) at :28 of the game and again with :19 left in the game. Yes, I should have said had a chance to get the game to within a bucket. But to say the game was never close is a bit of an exaggeration when they outscored the Cajuns in the second half and were within (5pts) late in the game. Thanks
I agree the game was fairly close throughout. That point guard of theirs is a player that is more than solid and you can’t give him an open look from three or you usually pay. Had we gotten the lead to 15 we may have coasted. Warhawks responded every time we threatened to which did not surprise me. Also, Justin Miller deserves lots of credit for the way he is passing the ball out of the post. Offense is more effective since they made that a focal point.
Stroman driving to the basket and consistently hitting tough shots was big. ULM answered several times. If Marcus misses a bunch of those it’s a different ballgame.
