Lafayette, LA - The IceGators (17-27-2), entered Sunday needing to get wins and points, took to the ice to take on the league leading Mississippi Surge (27-11-8). The ‘Gators out scored the Surge 5-1 in the last two periods and win 5-3 and out shot Mississippi 40-30.

The Surge were able to strike first against the ‘Gators. Matthew Larke (MIS) scored his 18th goal of the season with 10:44 left in the period. Louisiana’s Paul DAgostino was called for interference and led to a Mississippi power play goal by Shane Wagner (MIS). The ‘Gators continued being the most penalized team in the league by acquiring 28 minutes in the first period.

The IceGators entered the second period trailing 2-0 but came out firing. Louisiana out shot the Surge 10-5 and scored two goals separated by little more than two minutes. Mike Omicioli (LOU) scored the first and Trevor Karasiewicz (LOU) scored the second.

A few minutes later Louisiana’s Igor Karlov scored his second goal of the season (Karlov has only played six games this season). Chris Ferazzoli (MIS) scored a power play goal to tie the game 3-3 at the end of the period. During the third period the ‘Gators out shot the Surge 21-11.
