During Hannie’s exit interview the coaching staff told him they wanted him to focus only on hitting. It’s a shame if you ask me cause he’s a big lefty and was throwing 88-90 FB his freshman year with a really effective curve ball. He had great natural movement coming from the left side.

Looks like Vellion pretty much focused on hitting only for 4 years and now he is a pitcher. Maybe we can use the same tract with Hannie, but only with one summer off.

That doesn't shock me and perhaps I can give an answer.

Part of the new philosophy is to quit swinging at bad pitches, especially early in the count. But even late in the count, a batter is going to take a close pitch if he feels it's not a pitch in his zone. As a result, you'll see more called third strikes, especially early in the season. I would expect this number will decrease as the season progresses.

Sounds like adapting an approach to a set of skills, or lack thereof. Commonly known as walk workers.

New approach isn't exactly working out. 2.5:1 K to BB ratio. Right on pace with 2018.

We stopped leg kicking and hitting the ball out of the park. Defense had to play back because of the power and that allowed guys to drop a bunt down for a single.

    Everybody can play in now.

    The game within the game.

We are about 5% improved slugging%, OBP, BA. Most of that is the new corner IF, which was ineffective last year.
